Tottenham: Spurs "Superstar" Set To Quit This Summer

Tottenham big name Hugo Lloris is "set to join a new club this summer" and Spurs will not stand in his way, according to journalist Wayne Veysey.

What's the latest Spurs transfer news?

As chairman Daniel Levy battles on many fronts, the Lilywhites are tasked with resolving a plethora of different issues both on and off the field.

Following Antonio Conte's departure from the club nearly two months ago, Spurs are still yet to announce a permanent replacement, as they also watch former boss Mauricio Pochettino join Chelsea.

Alongside the hunt for a new manager, Tottenham are without a sporting director after Fabio Paratici's resignation, with Levy stepping up plans to appoint his replacement before the end of this Premier League season.

On the pitch, both Harry Kane and Lloris could depart Spurs for free next year as things stand, dealing a worry to the club with the former in particular standing out as a pivotal, pivotal player.

In terms of the latter, he has served the club brilliantly for over a decade, but Tottenham have reportedly already decided he can leave as soon as this summer.

According to Football Insider and reporter Veysey, the Frenchman is "set to join a new club this summer" and Spurs will let him leave, coming after a "jaw-dropping" offer from the Middle East.

An unnamed Saudi Arabian club have apparently moved with a big-money proposal and elite European clubs are also said to be interested in Lloris.

With just a year left on his deal, the 36-year-old is apparently free to seek pastures new, despite being held in very high esteem at Spurs.

Lloris – a phenomenal servant

Making 447 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions since his arrival from Lyon in 2012, keeping over 150 clean sheets in that time, it's safe to say Lloris has been a legend (Transfermarkt).

Kane perhaps summed up the contribution of his captain perfectly in a recent BBC interview, before England's clash with France at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Kane said:

"Hugo Lloris is a fantastic leader, he leads by example and is calm in pressure situations and knows when his voice needs to be heard and when he needs to be strong with his words.

"I've learned a lot through him and leadership skills to be captain of England."

His presence as an experienced figurehead in the Spurs dressing room will surely be difficult to replace, as Levy is now tasked with finding his replacement.

Vani Morea’s maiden List A century and John Reva’s all-round effort led Papua New Guinea to a 21-run win over Kenya in their World Cricket League Championship match on Monday. PNG’s second consecutive win against Kenya, after their six-wicket triumph on Saturday, lifted them to third on the points table.Morea scored an unbeaten 102, opening the innings, to steer PNG to 249 for 6 in 50 overs after they elected to bat at Amini Park in Port Moresby. In reply, Kenya were on course at 210 for 3 in the 45th over, but medium-pacer Reva’s career-best 4 for 31 led to a collapse and they were bowled out for 228 all out in 47.5 overs.PNG were reduced to 27 for 2 by the seventh over after losing Lega Siaka and Assad Vala. Morea and Sese Bau then combined for a third-wicket stand of 124 to steady the innings. Bau contributed 66 off 78 balls and struck nine fours and two sixes before he was trapped lbw by legspinner Collins Obuya. PNG lost quick wickets after the partnership was broken but Morea held firm and, along with Reva, added 73 unbeaten runs for the seventh wicket to steer PNG to 249. Reva was unbeaten on 43 off 33 balls, having crunched four fours and two sixes. Obuya was Kenya’s best bowler with figures of 4 for 42 off eight overs.Kenya lost opener Irfan Karim early, while Gurdeep Singh’s opening burst ended on 27 off 19 in the sixth over. The two Patels – Rushab, who top-scored with 95, and Rakep, the captain, stitched together a third-wicket stand of 88. After Rakep’s dismissal, Obuya (38) continued the good work by adding 85 for the fourth wicket with Rushab. Once the duo fell – in the space of eight deliveries in the 45th and 46th overs – Kenya lost their last five wickets for 13 runs.Norman Vanua, the new-ball bowler, took three wickets, but was expensive and leaked 47 in seven overs. Chad Soper and Bau took a wicket apiece.

Reporter Drops Interesting Bellingham Update at Liverpool

Liverpool choosing to snub their pursuit of Jude Bellingham could help to accelerate the progress of discussions with other midfield targets at Anfield, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

What's the latest news involving Jude Bellingham?

As per ESPN, Liverpool pulled out of making a move to try and sign Borussia Dortmund sensation Bellingham in order to focus on rebuilding their squad this summer.

The report states that the Reds would've been committing a large portion of their spending power in the forthcoming transfer window to the deal and wouldn't have been able to strengthen adequately ahead of 2023/24 in other areas.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has since updated the world with the news that Bellingham looks set for a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid on Twitter, stating: "Real Madrid are already preparing the official bid for Jude Bellingham. After personal terms agreed on long-term deal 2 weeks ago, proposal will be sent to BVB and it will include add-ons. Timing also depends on Bundesliga title race; Real will be respectful with Dortmund."

In 2022/23, the 19-year-old has made 42 appearances in all competitions for his current employers, registering 14 goals and seven assists, as per Transfermarkt.

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Jacobs has indicated that he expects Liverpool to have a busy transfer period this summer.

Jacobs told FFC: "I sense with the whole, pulling out of the race for Jude Bellingham was not only Liverpool not wanting that to eat up a large proportion of their budget and the saga drag out. It was also a situation whereby they will have known that there were other gettable targets that they could focus their attention on and as a consequence, I expect Liverpool have lined things up and, in the early part of the window, be really quite busy."

Who else have Liverpool targeted in terms of midfielders?

Liverpool have targeted several midfielders ahead of the summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to beef up his engine room with some fresh legs.

As per Football Insider, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has been mooted as a possible target and it is said that the Blues will sell him in the transfer window if they cant get him to agree to a contract extension.

Bayern Munich anchorman Ryan Gravenberch is also someone of interest to Liverpool and is believed to be open to a move to Anfield due to frustration over a lack of regular minutes, according to The Mirror.

PSV Eindhoven enforcer Ibrahim Sangare has also attracted attention from the red half of Merseyside, signifying that Liverpool fans are in for an exciting few months ahead as they plot a squad restructure ahead of 2023/24.

Gubbins and Eskinazi revel in their overdue catch-up

Nick Gubbins and Steve Eskinazi revelled in an overdue catch-up as Middlesex’s young batsmen shone against Lancashire at Lord’s

Today was about a tale of Nick Gubbins and Stevie Eskinazi – two who have made their way up the youth ranks at Middlesex together and spent the best part of their Tuesday creating the sorts of memories that best friends never tire of reliving. Gubbins will no doubt lead the reminiscing: a double hundred to savour as he led his side out of Lancashire’s huge first innings shadow. But Eskinazi, as he did today, will interject with his side of the story – an accomplished maiden first class century in his second match in the format.Together, they put on 208 in 361 balls for the third wicket, their time in the middle a welcome treat for Middlesex and Gubbins: “It’s probably the most time I’ve spent with Eski since he got a girlfriend. It was nice that he took time out of his day to spend it with me.”Ah, Gubbins, the proto-Strauss starting to enhance his own name. For many Middlesex fans, the Gubbins-Strauss comparison is tiresome. While the similarities are evident and valid – Radley College alumni, a carbon copy game square of the wicket, identical slack jaw smile and general clumsiness – the annoyance for them is that some use the comparison to extrapolate what Gubbins might achieve rather than lauding what he is achieving right now.At 22 years of age, he has a Division One double hundred at Lord’s. That’s now two centuries and, at the time of walking off when bad light stopped play after tea, 570 runs in his first full season of Championship cricket. Only Sam Robson has enjoyed a more fruitful red ball summer than him. In case you were wondering, Strauss was 34 when he made it past 200 for the first time. His time at the crease is approaching eight hours, having begun this innings 12 overs before lunch on day two. Starting again on 71 on the third morning, he made the most of Kyle Jarvis’ pace on the ball to drive across a fast outfield. He waited for the bad balls, sure, but he also scored off the good deliveries, too: soft hands guiding any balls that left him to third man and firm wrists pushing anything at him into midwicket and mid on. It was only when he went from 89 to 95 in one strike that trepidation entered his game.Scores in the nineties hang over any batsmen: each a sizeable nugget in your conscience that reminds of you of opportunities missed. Comparable to the person at the bar you couldn’t summon the courage to talk to or that spare ticket you fobbed off to what turned out to be the gig of a lifetime. Or that time you were on a flat one at Lord’s and failed to make it count. And Gubbins had three of them before breaching three figures for the first time against Somerset in his previous match at Lord’s. He very nearly added a fourth. On 96 and looking to cut into a vacant backward point, he edged Jordan Clark to Steven Croft, only for the Lancashire skipper to shell what would have been a smart, diving take to his left. After some calming words from Eskinazi, he decided to get there in singles. There was no such hesitancy in the 190s which he admitted were “a bit of a blur”, aided by a nick through third man and then a powerful pull shot off Jarvis which pinged off the advertising boards of the Grandstand. When Eskinazi was asked what his hundred felt like, he used up most of his time lauding the feat of Gubbins’ double. When they weren’t singing each other’s praises, they were joshing – Gubbins scoffing at Eskinazi’s assertion that he was “as British as my friend Nick Gubbins”; Eskinazi at Gubbins’ insistence that the slog sweep for six to take him to three figures was “pretty rogue”.At lunch, Eskinazi, on 91, had an inbox full of encouragement from his friends and family. As joke, he messaged his brother to ask whether or not he should sweep the leg-spinner, Matt Parkinson, for six to bring up his 100. “Absolutely not, not a chance, please don’t!” came the reply from brother, mum, dad, three uncles and two cousins. When he eventually departed for 106, edging Kyle Jarvis to Tom Smith at second slip, came the follow-up texts: “You absolutely cowboy!”This is Eskinazi’s fourth year at the club and is three years away from qualifying fully for England. Born in Johannesburg, raised in Western Australia where he turned out for the state’s Under-17 and 19 sides, while also spending 10 years in England as a kid (his mother was born here). As a wicket-keeper batsman, his first team opportunities had been limited, but he was never far from the lips of the Middlesex members.Like most diehard county fans, any lament of an underperforming first XI brings a stream of 2nd XI names that should be given a chance to do better. In the last few years, Adam Rossington and Andy Balbirnie were names that have echoed around the ground or off the metal finished bar of the Tavern pub: players who have wiped the floor with 2nd XI attacks but whose opportunities further up were limited. Both have moved on. Last season, “Stevie Eskinazi” began to make an appearance as words of “outstanding knocks for the 2s” or “big runs for Stanmore” spread like fantasy folklore. On this day, you saw it for yourself. He could not have asked for a better pitch for only his third first-class knock. Even so, every defensive shot came out of the middle, as he lined up behind every full or short ball. Near the end of the morning session, Lancashire looked to prey on any nerves he might have while Eskinazi was on his maiden first class voyage in the nineties. Parkinson bowled around the wicket into the right-armers footmarks at the Pavilion End, with a two slips and a leg slip for company. He ignored it all, leaving a handful of deliveries across him and pushing the ball out in front before waiting for his mate to go for lunch.Like all Bromance movies, there is a key message here: Middlesex’s investment in youth is starting to pay dividends. While previously it had been senior men steered the team out of trouble, here were two 22-year-olds doing so with all the comfort of a long overdue catch-up.In keeping, Lancashire looked very much like patrons unable to get on with their own plans over the raucous bonhomie on the next table. But rather than lose their will and ask to be moved, they got on with matters. A mini-collapse of 42 for 3 with the new ball brought them some relief.A fourth Lord’s stalemate is in the offing. For all the revelry of the regulars, Lancashire can take solace from the fact that they don’t come here often.

Trescothick equals Gimblett record, ploughs ever on

Marcus Trescothick has taken his place alongside Harold Gimblett as Somerset’s most prolific century-maker in first-class cricket

Marcus Trescothick has taken his place alongside Harold Gimblett as Somerset’s most prolific century-maker in first-class cricket. The achievement has been counted down in the West Country for years and, if he recorded his 49th hundred in the gleaming white heat of Trent Bridge, it will be fervently hoped that the record happens to come his way at Taunton with the Quantocks shimmering in the haze and the chance to raise a glass to it with a post-match cider in the Ring of Bells. In 17 previous matches at Trent Bridge, Trescothick had never made a hundred; last year he made a pair. When he walked off at the close of the second day, he had 117 to his name. He slowed markedly in the last hour, not just through weariness, although he was entitled to that, but through a recognition that he needed to be there on the morrow. At 244 for 3, Somerset still trail by 157 and they must face the legspin of Imran Tahir in the fourth innings. They will yearn for 500.He has piled up three first-class hundreds in a fortnight, against the Pakistan tourists, Middlesex and now Nottinghamshire, delivering them with the unshowy sagacity of an experienced midwife delivering a child. His later period is bountiful, his strokeplay hale and hearty. His old England batting partner, Andrew Strauss, has won the argument for flatter pitches – at least for the moment – and he can’t get out on them. It is to be hoped he sends a Christmas card.At a time when the debate is variously about how the nation feels ignored by London’s ruling elites, and cricket feels the financial lure of T20 city cricket, he symbolises a staunchness and goodness in the shires. A straight drive against Harry Gurney and a six into the midwicket stand – appealingly close – against Imran Tahir were among his most memorable moments.Somerset fame has moved organically across more than half a century. Gimblett was from farming stock in Bicknoller, near Taunton, and Wisden, in making him a Cricketer of the Year in 1953 described him thus:Dark days no longer

Marcus Trescothick: “I’m delighted, the last couple of weeks have been fantastic, it’s been brilliant to go past Sir Viv Richards, close in on Harold’s record and now equal it. More than that, it’s my first hundred here at Trent Bridge. I’ve had some dark days here. Last year I bagged a pair, so it’s nice to come back and get a hundred this time.”
Andy Pick (Notts bowling coach):”I don’t think we helped ourselves with the way we batted this morning and then how we started with the ball. Yesterday counted for nothing, it was a platform, nothing more. We should have gone on and made a bigger score and then when we bowled they got away from us a little bit. In the last hour Harry Gurney showed what needed to be done, he bowled with good pace and aggression, got it to move and had them struggling a little bit.”

“His frame has always befitted a man brought up in farm life. Two years ago, when the scales showed a weight of 15st 4 ½ lbs, and he was finding difficulty in fielding the ball on the ground, he disciplined his diet in the same way as he had disciplined his inclination to hit every ball out of sight. He avoided everything which made fat and, denying himself butter, bread, potatoes and cakes, he reduced to 12 ½ st and has remained there. He found he could run about more easily.”Trescothick, of amiable shape and disposition, possesses a more modern approach to fitness, but at 40 he rarely moves from slip and his reflexes have remained up to the challenge. As reports suggested of Gimblett, there is a sense of guileless strength and wholesome strokeplay. It is tempting to push the comparison, but Gimblett was known as an uncomplicated hitter. Trescothick has been one of the best England batsmen of his generation. His record-equalling hundred came on a satisfying Somerset day. With Nottinghamshire 311 for 4 overnight, they were up against it, and to take the last six wickets for 90 soon after lunch must have been as good as they dared hope. Craig Overton’s resolve had much to do with that, four morning wickets bringing him figures of 4 for 54. If Somerset are to lay to rest relegation fears, Overton’s ability to focus his aggression will be crucial.Steven Mullaney already had a Championship-best score of 161 to his name overnight and he equalled his first-class best when he clipped the first ball of the day to the fine leg fence. But that was that as Overton forced a loose shot outside off stump. Samit Patel mistimed a pull to midwicket and lbws in successive balls accounted for Luke Fletcher, his nightwatchman duties stretched over a further 90 minutes, and Chris Read. Overton, returning with purpose after lunch, wrapped things up with two wicketkeeper catches. It was a stonkingly hot day – the first undeniably “mustn’t grumble” day of summer – and Fletcher’s perspiring attempts to remove Trescothick early were diverting. Closer and closer Fletcher got to the outside edge – or felt he did. From Trescothick there was the same artful play inside the line, minimal movement, maximum judgment, 0.1 calories expended. An entire over passed this way. Fletcher mused about it, re-set his sights and, in the next over, hollered for a catch at the wicket. Not out. Trescothick was still playing inside the line. It was just that the “Bulwell Bomber” could no longer believe it. A fact he vehemently expressed. In the heat of the afternoon, Trescothick and Johann Myburgh rattled up the first 100 at five an over, Myburgh, looking even more diminutive whenever Trescothick ambled up for an encouraging chat, driving neatly off the front foot in his 54 before Tahir, in his second over, bowled him with a big legbreak.Trescothick towelled the perspiration from his face and glasses and shook his gloves in the heat. His hundred was raised with a glorious cover drive against Brett Hutton followed by a spurted single, in only 122 balls with 19 fours and a six.Gurney ended Chris Rogers’ untroubled stay courtesy of a leg-side flick and then James Hildreth, whose wicket he seemed to fancy, was bowled playing no shot. Belatedly, a Notts seamer had delivered their best spell oif the day. But “the ploughman homeward plods his weary way” as Trescothick has plodded for Somerset, so loyally, so dependably and for so long.

Rangers Agree Terms To Sign "Brilliant" 30 y/o

Glasgow Rangers are close to signing Jack Butland, with the goalkeeper agreeing on personal terms at Ibrox, The Daily Mail report.

What’s the latest Jack Butland transfer news?

The Gers have endured a real rollercoaster of emotions when it comes to a move for Butland, with rumours of a move first emerging last month. The club were thought to be on the verge of signing the 30-year-old as their first summer addition on a free transfer, however, it appeared as if a transfer twist was in the pipeline in recent days.

Reports suggested that Manchester United, where Butland is currently on loan until the end of the season, were willing to blow Rangers out the water by doubling his salary ahead of a permanent move.

It was described as a potential "huge blow", as Michael Beale "believed he was close" to signing his "main target", hailed as "brilliant" by members of the media. However, it now looks as if a transfer is back on track, with another update coming to light.

According to The Daily Mail, the Nike-sponsored goalkeeper has shown a willingness to fit into the Ibrox wage structure and ‘has agreed a compromise on his personal terms’. A move is once again thought to be close, with the player eager to feature regularly at first team level.

Who else could Rangers sign this summer?

It appears as if Butland could be one of a number of English-based players through the door in Glasgow this summer. Deals have reportedly been agreed for Chelsea’s Dujon Sterling and Norwich City’s Kieran Dowell, with both players also set to become free agents over the coming weeks.

However, they may not be the last, with up to 10 new additions possibly on the cards. Rangers also seem willing to splash the cash if needed when it comes to new signings, with a move to sign Ecuador midfielder Jose Cifuentes appearing to be close. Arsenal defender Auston Trusty is another player the club could end up spending money on, with a move thought to be doable.

A number of Rangers players are out of contract at the end of the month, so it looks set to be an extremely busy summer ahead of Beale’s first season in charge.

Arsenal could sign "monster" in £61m swoop

Arsenal are expected to have a busy summer, after the Gunners narrowly missed out on securing their first Premier League title since 2004.

With one game remaining, it has overall been a successful campaign for Mikel Arteta’s side, who fell agonisingly short in the final months that saw Manchester City claim the title once more.

Lack of squad depth was a huge factor to Arsenal’s downfall, with the injury to William Saliba proving costly at a time when stability was essential.

Now, with the summer window approaching, it’s expected that the north Londoners will look to recruit in defence for depth to go again with big aspirations next season.

One name has been linked with a potential move to the Emirates this week, as a Bundesliga centre-back has emerged as a target.

What’s the latest on Edmond Tapsoba to Arsenal?

As reported by Fabrizio Romano earlier this week, Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba has been monitored by scouts representing Arsenal.

The Gunners aren’t the only club in north London eyeing the 24-year-old, as Tottenham have also scouted the defender with the race remaining “absolutely open”, as per Romano.

It was reported by BILD in 2021 that Leverkusen had demanded a fee in the region of €70m (£61m).

What could Edmond Tapsoba bring to Arsenal?

Hailed as a “monster” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, Tapsoba has shone for Leverkusen this season, cementing himself as a firm starter for the Bundesliga side.

The young defender has marshalled at the back, but has been praised for attributes beyond the art of defending in relation to his comfort on the ball and “very good” footballing IQ.

Described as being an “elite ball-player” by members of the media, the 24-year-old would be a perfect fit in Arteta’s plans going forward, with the Gunners in dire need for strength in quality at the back.

Despite the position of Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes looking untouchable now, it would undoubtedly benefit the squad to provide some competition for places, with no players in Arsenal’s ranks able to consistently reach the heights of the two first choices.

edmond-tapsoba-transfer-arsenal-gossip-john-stones-guardiola-van-dijk-arteta-edu

When you review the success of Pep Guardiola’s defence, a lot of performance has been raised in having a group of equally talented defenders rivalling each other for a shot at consistent game time.

Arteta could replicate the strict competition at the Etihad through smart recruitment, and with Tapsoba potentially in a position to be lured away from Leverkusen this summer, Arsenal would be missing a trick in not snatching him up.

The Burkina Faso international suits the Spaniard’s favoured attributes as a ball-playing centre-back, as highlighted by FBref through his numbers, averaging 5.82 progressive passes per 90, ranking him in the top 4% of centre-backs in Europe in this skill.

The Bundesliga talent actually tops Gabriel in his progressive play, and also in some defensive areas, averaging 1.71 tackles and 1.15 interceptions per 90 to the Brazilian’s average 1.29 tackles and 0.87 interceptions – as per FBref.

Inducing competition to a stable area of a squad not only enhances performance but increases depth and expands ideas on a game-to-game basis, as managers can plot their next moves dependent on the opponent, reducing predictability.

As a player expected to be in demand this summer, Arsenal should act fast in their pursuit of Tapsoba when the window opens, who could undoubtedly be a strong addition to their squad.
