Three reasons Newcastle must hijack Everton’s bid to sign Ryan Fredericks

According to reports in The Irish Sun, Fulham defender Ryan Fredericks could join Everton a free transfer this summer.

The 25-year-old has been one of the Championship club’s most consistent performers at right-back this season and the Cottagers currently lie in third position in the table as they look to win promotion to the Premier League under Slavisa Jokanovic.

The Irish Sun reports achieving that means they could hold of highly-rated 17-year-old Ryan Sessegnon, but Fredericks could be on his way out whatever happens given his contract is due to run out at the end of the season and with no sign yet that he is going to extend his stay.

The former England U19 international would likely provide competition for Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny at Goodison Park, as he looks to forge a top flight career for himself.

Meanwhile, their Premier League rivals Newcastle United can move a step closer to ensuring they stay up when they host Huddersfield Town at St James’ Park on March 31, with a win taking them to 35 points and a step closer to safety.

Manager Rafa Benitez will already be thinking about how he can strengthen his squad this summer if they remain in the top flight, and if he is looking to add more competition for places within his team then Fredericks should certainly be on his radar.

Here are three reasons the Magpies must hijack Everton’s bid to sign the right-back…

While Yedlin has established himself as the Magpies’ first-choice right-back in recent months and impressed the fans with some of his displays, he perhaps doesn’t have the required competition in the squad that Rafa Benitez would like him to have.

They do have Jesus Gamez and Javier Manquillo that can play there, but the former has featured for just 217 minutes for the Toon this season and his contract is due to expire this summer, while the latter has largely featured at left-back when he has played, and is now providing back-up to both Yedlin and Paul Dummett.

Adding Fredericks to the Newcastle squad would certainly give the American more competition and push him to perform at a higher level, and that can only be a positive thing with the former England U19 international also being determined to make a name for himself in the top flight.

Fredericks has been one of Fulham’s most impressive players in their push for promotion this season, and he has provided nine assists from right-back in 36 Championship appearances – as per Transfermarkt.

According to WhoScored.com, the 25-year-old’s main strengths are his dribbling and his passing, and he has successfully completed 57 of the 87 dribbles he has attempted in the league this term, as well as making 35 key passes for Slavisa Jokanovic’s attacking team.

He has also shown his defensive abilities too though, making 95 clearances and winning 58 of the 75 tackles he has attempted.

Fredericks is yet to sign a new contract at Fulham with his current deal set to run out at the end of the season, and while it is unlikely to happen if the Cottagers don’t win promotion this term, it may not even happen if they do go up if the player has ambitions to move on.

Whatever does happen, if Newcastle can bring him to St James’ Park on a free transfer this summer it would have to be a no-brainer decision, given Benitez likely won’t have a huge budget to spend.

Adam tips Salah to stay at Liverpool

Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has claimed that Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah is not good enough to represent either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Salah has scored 37 times in 42 appearances in all competitions during a remarkable 2017-18 campaign at Liverpool.

The Egypt international’s form has led to suggestions that La Liga’s two giants want to bring him to Spain in this summer’s transfer window.

However, Adam, who represented Liverpool for one season following a move from Blackpool in 2011, has claimed that Salah would not get a game at Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Adam told talkSPORT:

“Where’s he going to go? It’s difficult for him, where does he go? Will he get a game at Real Madrid? Will he get a game at Barcelona? I don’t think he would. I think he will stay there.”

Salah, who is valued at £72m by transfermarkt.co.uk, struggled to make his mark in the Premier League whilst representing Chelsea, but a successful spell at Roma saw the attacker given another crack at the English game.

The 25-year-old has managed 29 goals in 31 league matches for Liverpool this season, and will be looking to make an impression in the club’s upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City.

Player Ratings: Who was Man United’s best player vs Man City?

Saturday’s Manchester derby might well be remembered for many years to come, but not for the reasons expected before kickoff. This should have been Manchester City’s coronation, the earliest in English top flight history, at the bitter expense of their local rivals.

Much of the match followed that script with City in something near complete control, except for a fateful 15 minutes in the second half that saw Manchester United score thrice to overtake the home side’s earlier two-goal lead.

Paul Pogba was instrumental in that and seemed to drive the team on almost single-handed after the interval, scoring twice. But Alexis Sanchez played a key role as well; the 119-cap Chilean directly assisted the last two goals, including Chris Smalling’s winner, and provided a perfect cross to Ander Herrera for Pogba’s first.

So, United fans, who were the most heroic of heroes during United’s shock comeback? Which players impressed you the most? Let us know by taking part in the poll below and giving each player involved a performance rating out of ten…

Leeds fans loved Paudie O’Connor’s debut

Leeds fans are absolutely delighted for Paudie O’Connor, after the youngster made an impressive debut in the 1-1 draw against Sunderland.

Leeds fans were impressed by young debutant Tom Pearce when the 19 year-old made his debut against Sheffield Wednesday, and now Paudie O’Connor has added himself to the list of exciting youngsters coming out of the Leeds youth setup.

With no relegation threat to worry about and no realistic chance of making the playoffs, Leeds fans have been hoping to see more of the young talent on offer at the club, and O’Connor showed exactly why on Saturday.

The 20 year-old Irishman was calm and composed despite the sometimes calamitous state of the back four as a whole, and fans are extremely impressed by the young star.

O’Connor signed for the club in 2017, and has been fantastic for the Under-23 side this season. Jack Clarke and Sam Dalby have also been in superb form for the U23s, so fans may be hoping to see those two added to the list of Paul Heckingbottom debutants.

Heckingbottom has had a pretty miserable start to his time as Leeds manager, but he certainly can’t be accused of not giving youth a chance.

Radja Nainggolan shows why he would be Farhad Moshiri’s best Everton signing yet

Everton could be set for another busy summer in the transfer market following a largely disappointing campaign, which started with them flirting with the relegation places in the Premier League, and looks set to end without them qualifying for European football next season.

Owner Farhad Moshiri will have been disappointed with some of the club’s transfer business last summer – Sandro Ramirez and Davy Klaassen spring to mind – and he will be determined to get things right this time around, to ensure the Merseyside outfit challenge the top six in the top flight next term.

One player that could help the Toffees to achieve that would be AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan, rated at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, who was one of the few positives in his side’s 5-2 defeat against Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The tie looked to be over when the Reds marched into a 5-0 lead, but the Belgium international crossed for Edin Dzeko to sweep home, before he won a penalty that Diego Perotti converted after his effort had been handled by James Milner.

The 29-year-old certainly made a big impact in the final third for the Serie A outfit throughout, and as well as the two assists, he made four key passes in total and had three shots at goal, as per WhoScored.com.

Nainggolan also showed his quality on the ball with two dribbles and a passing accuracy of 88%, and there is little doubt that he could add some real quality to the Everton midfield next season, as well as being a really popular figure with the fans, who have urged the club to re-sign former defender John Stones.

While it would be an ambitious move, the Merseyside outfit are an ambitious club and they should be targeting players like the Belgian if they want to progress, and bringing him to Goodison Park would surely be Moshiri’s best deal yet.

So, Everton fans, do you think your club should attempt to sign Nainggolan? Let us know what you think by voting on our poll below…

Man United fans are eager to sign Gareth Bale after his El Clasico equaliser

Manchester United fans are eager to sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale after the Welshman’s stunning equaliser against Barcelona on Sunday.

The El Clasico derby is the biggest club football match in the entire world and all eyes were on the two sides this weekend as they went toe-to-toe in La Liga.

With Barcelona leading in the match thanks to goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, Bale scored a beautiful top-corner equaliser ensure his side didn’t lose to their eternal rivals.

Bale has been consistently linked with a move to Old Trafford this season, so the goal prompted a flood of discussion from United fans who are hopeful of doing a deal for him when the summer transfer window opens.

Many believe he could be the missing piece of Jose Mourinho’s puzzle when it comes to their attacking balance.

Rated at £63m by Transfermarkt, the winger has scored 16 goals and provided four assists for the Spanish club this season.

Should Man United make a move for him?

Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts…

Arsenal’s change of ‘war chest’ tack could have the same old consequences

News that Arsenal have a transfer ‘war chest’ is usually one of the staples of the football headlines come the end of the club season.

But after the departure of Arsene Wenger and a new direction for the club, it looks as though things might well be different this time. In terms of the headlines, it certainly is.

A decade ago, a headline proclaiming that the Arsenal board is ready to hand their manager £50m would certainly be seen as a huge chunk of cash. But this year the reports are that the Gunners are limiting their spending to a number that – in the modern world – seems pitifully small for a top six club. Indeed, if they want to compete next season, you get the feeling they’ll need to spend a bit more than that to bring in a solid defensive midfielder, a centre back and perhaps even a goalkeeper.

But if the fact that £50m has now become a small number shows that the game has changed, then perhaps the headlines also show that Arsenal are changing.

Over the last few years, talk of massive transfer kitties may well have sold season tickets to long-suffering Gooners who were undecided about renewing, but the more important consequence of that strategy was really only to drive up the price for the top class talent the club were purportedly chasing; Arsene Wenger simply wouldn’t part with cash to meet the inflated figure.

This time, and given how much the Gunners have been burned in recent years, you wonder if Arsenal have planted reports about limiting their new manager to a certain figure in order to ward off inflation in the transfer market: six times bitten, seventh time shy.

Then again, there is an element of trust when it comes to allowing a new manager to spend money. Sure, Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi are now in place and have a theoretical control over transfers, but Arsenal has been the personal fiefdom of Arsene Wenger for so long that it might take a while for the machine to run smoothly. And even in the most slick, modern football clubs, it’s important that the manager gets to have a say (perhaps the final one) in whether a player ultimately joins or not. In the end, it’s the manager you see getting the sack for poor performances, not the scouts and the “heads of football relations”.

The likelihood is that Arsenal will have to spend some money this summer not just to ensure their their squad is capable of getting back into the Champions League after a two-year absence, but to overhaul the playing staff to fit the needs of a new manager.

If they don’t want to suffer inflated prices and European clubs playing hardball over the sale of their best players, the Gunners might need a better strategy than leaking to the press that they have no money. If, on the other hand, they don’t want to spend much at all, then will things really be any different next season?

Denis Kolinger can be West Ham’s ideal James Collins replacement

According to reports in The Sun, Brighton and Hove Albion are tracking £1m-rated Lokomotiva Zagreb centre-back Denis Kolinger, and their Premier League rivals West Ham United should look to hijack any deal.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Sun says that the highly-rated has been an impressive performer in the Croatian top flight this season and is attracting interest from the Seagulls, as well as Championship sides Middlesbrough and Reading.

The Sun says that while the 24-year-old, who was born in Germany but qualifies for Croatia through his parents, has two years left on his contract with his current club, he could still leave for just £1m this summer as he looks to make the move to England.

Meanwhile, West Ham are certain to be looking for at least one – and potentially two – new central defenders during the close season, following Jose Fonte’s departure to China in February, James Collins’ contract expiring next month and Winston Reid continuing to be hampered by injury issues.

How has Kolinger done this season?

The 6ft 6in tall centre-back has been an impressive performer for Lokomotiva Zagreb, making 33 appearances in all competitions.

As well as his defensive abilities – he is a renowned tough tackler – he has also shown the presence and threat his height gives him in the opposition penalty area with four goals this term.

[ad_pod ]

Would he be a good signing for West Ham?

He certainly would be – especially if they are planning to sign two centre-backs.

While the east London outfit may be willing to splash the cash on one central defender, they probably will want to save some of their budget for other parts of the tea rather than spending big on two of them.

Bringing Kolinger to the London Stadium for around £1m could prove to be a bargain in the long run, and he could be a cut-price replacement for Collins who is unlikely to be handed a new deal – much to the frustration of Irons fans on Twitter.

Barcelona contact clubs regarding Dembele sale, Arsenal fans react

Ousmane Dembele was one of the big names in last summer’s transfer window when he moved from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona, and it seems that he will be a regular feature in the gossip pages once again.

Arsenal fans have been discussing the possibility of their club making a swoop for the 21-year-old, who cost Barca in excess of £100m.

The attacking midfielder has struggled to settle into life in the Catalan city, largely due to the fact that his start was disrupted by a serious hamstring injury.

In total this season, Dembele made 22 appearances in all competitions, including 11 starts in La Liga.

[ad_pod ]

During that time, the midfielder scored four goals and created six assists, but it seems that Barcelona are willing to offload already.

According to Spanish radio station RAC1, the Catalan giants have been contacting European clubs regarding a potential sale.

The identity of the clubs were not mentioned, but Arsenal fans are deliberating whether or not the North London outfit will launch a bid.

The majority do not feel very hopeful, while others think that Liverpool are likely to win the race due to Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.

Leeds fans would love to see Ezgjan Alioski under Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United are reportedly hoping to appoint Marcelo Bielsa as Paul Heckingbottom’s successor after the 40-year-old was sacked on Friday, and Whites fans are already excited about the prospect of Ezgjan Alioski playing under the Argentine boss.

The Yorkshire outfit are on the search for a new manager as they look for a successful Championship campaign next time out, and they could go for the 62-year-old who is known for playing a 3-3-1-3 formation that allows for a high press.

While a number of Victor Orta’s 2017 summer signings disappointed, Alioski was one of the success stories as he ended the 2017/18 campaign with seven goals and a further six assists in 45 appearances in all competitions, and his energy and work-rate would mean he could be a perfect fit for Bielsa’s demands.

Leeds supporters, who believe a big development on Saturday night means they have almost sealed a deal for their first summer signing, have been quick to have their say about the potential link-up between the duo.

While one said “he fits the tactics of Bielsa so well”, another said “I actually think a Bielsa-coached Alioski will be one of the most threatening wingers in the league”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
