Sheffield Wednesday Agree Deal To Sign 22 y/o

Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Anthony Musaba from AS Monaco.

What’s the latest Sheffield Wednesday transfer news?

It has been a dramatic few months for The Owls both on and off the pitch which began in the League One playoffs. Darren Moore was the man in charge and helped turn around a 4-0 semi-final first-leg deficit against Peterborough United, with the club then sealing their place in the Championship with a last-minute final winner at Wembley against Barnsley.

However, since then, Moore has left Hillsborough after chairman Dejphon Chansiri claimed he wanted a new contract four times bigger than his existing one, with the club eventually bringing in Xisco Munoz as the new manager.

Five new players have been brought in ahead of the 2023/24 campaign which gets underway this weekend. Reece James, Di'Shon Bernard, Juan Delgado, Ashley Fletcher and Pol Valentin have all made the move to Wednesday, and it looks as if the club are closing in on another piece of business ahead of the opening weekend clash with Southampton on Friday.

The Star shared a transfer update from Sheffield Wednesday earlier this morning, claiming that the club are closing in on another signing.

Musaba was named as a target earlier in the week and it is believed ‘that a deal has been agreed between the involved parties as the move draws closer’. The player is reportedly expected to touch down in the UK imminently, and it is claimed that a loan deal is likely with Musaba still having time left on his Monaco contract.

Who is Anthony Musaba?

Musaba is 22 years of age and spent time in the academies of NEC Nijmegen and Vitesse Arnhem before moving to Monaco back in 2020 in a deal which was worth €2.5m.

Since then, he has been sent out on loan to Belgium with Cercle Brugge, the Netherlands with Heerenveen and France with FC Metz. The Dutch U21 international also returned to NEC Nijmegen on loan back in January for the second half of the previous campaign.

Primarily a right-winger, Musaba can turn out on the left or as a centre-forward and has made over 100 senior appearances during his career so far, although only one has come for his parent club Monaco.

The Adidas-sponsored attacker has scored 19 goals at senior level and provided 10 assists, so should be able to bring an exciting and versatile attacking option to Hillsborough.

Munoz has been looking to add a bit of pace and flair to his side ahead of the new season, so Musaba may well be just the player he has been after. Wednesday currently have just one right-winger on the books in Malik Wilks, as per Transfermarkt, with a number of central options available to Munoz, meaning Musaba could be utilised on the flank, aiming to make a name for himself in the second tier.

It appears as if a deal is extremely close to being completed, and it’ll be interesting to see where the Owls decide to strengthen next with Musaba on course to become the sixth player through the door this summer.

'India can beat Australia' – Chopra

The former India captain believes that Australia’s confidence is the only thing which will be missing in the Indian line-up

Chopra: India will need a good start, like they got against England

India have a “50-50” chance of beating defending champions Australia in the Women’s World Cup semi-final on Thursday, an opinion the former India captain Anjum Chopra insists isn’t merely the “hope” of a positive outcome. Chopra has been closely following the fortunes of Mithali Raj’s team as a commentator, but concedes Australia’s superior experience and pedigree will be a factor going into the clash.Australia have won six of the 10 World Cup tournaments prior to this and hold an overwhelming 34-8 win-loss record against India in ODIs. Since the last World Cup in 2013, India have won just one of their four ODIs against Australia. In the group stages of this edition, Australia won six of their seven games while India won five.”Yes, I think India can beat Australia,” Chopra told ESPNcricinfo from London. “When I say that, I am not just being hopeful that India should be in a final. The reason I say that is, I’ve always felt that anytime you get into a quarter-final or a semi-final, there’s always one match that as a team you need to play well together, even if they are the current world champions.”Definitely they are a beatable side. Yes they have been world champions often, so they’ve seen themselves as an Australian team in this situation many more times than the Indian team. So yes, the confidence is there, they know how to come to this stage and how to conquer this stage, which will apparently be missing in the Indian line-up.”One of India’s major concerns going into the game will be the sharp decline in the form of their opener Smriti Mandhana. Mandhana, who turned 21 on Tuesday, started the tournament with scores of 90 and 106*, helping the team secure wins over England and West Indies, but has subsequently been dismissed for 2, 8, 4, 3 and 13. India do have the option to promote 19-year old Deepti Sharma, a specialist opener who has been playing in the middle order, but Chopra believes such a move could only have been contemplated had Deepti been tested in the role in the group stages.”Against an Australian line-up where Smriti as an attacking left-hander will be required to come good at the top, I don’t think the Indian team will be looking at that change,” she said. “As players, we have seen ourselves go in and out of form. In the last four days, the Indian team would have had the time to relax, if required, or go and hit the nets. I think four days is good enough time for any cricketer to make that turnaround. At the top, that strong partnership that India can come up with it, like they did against England, I think that will be very crucial.”While Mandhana’s form has tapered off, her opening partner Punam Raut has been consistently providing solidity to the top order. Raut is, in fact, second behind captain Mithali Raj among India’s leading run-getters in the tournament and made a hundred against Australia in the league stage. India will also be encouraged by the contributions of Harmanpreet Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy, who struck half-centuries in their final game of the league phase, a must-win encounter against New Zealand.”At this level, it is a mental game,” Chopra said. “It is not just about realising that you are playing for India, it’s about making your presence felt that you are an Indian player, where the world is actually watching and following you. Veda, of course, has good shots down the ground, she has the power to clear the field as well. You just have to make sure that as a player you give yourself enough time to get yourself in such a position that you can play in an attacking way. Harman, too, wasn’t getting enough time out in the middle, she got it against New Zealand and she really made it count.”Currently the second-highest run-getter in the tournament, Ellyse Perry is one of the more significant threats for India in the semi-final•ICC/Getty Images

Although Australia are brimming with skilled players, the biggest threat to India will come from their captain, Meg Lanning. Though Lanning has missed two matches due to shoulder problems, she is still among the top run-scorers of the tournament. In fact, she made a serene, unbeaten 76 to guide her team to a comfortable win in their league encounter against India. Chopra reckons while Lanning is a big thorn in India’s flesh, they have to be wary of the threat from other players, too.”She is a world-class batter, there is no doubt about her ability to lead the team,” Chopra said. “She has been a prolific run-getter for Australia, someone you as a spectator would like to pay money to watch. She is so good, playing front foot or back foot, fast-bowling or spin, she provides class to her batting. But I think a very important factor here is also Ellyse Perry. She’s been batting at No. 3 or 4 for Australia. Remember the partnerships she’s been stitching together with Lanning or whoever else she has been batting with.”India’s bowling tactics for this make-or-break encounter will also be carefully watched. India’s spin bowlers have taken 36 wickets in the tournament so far, while the seamers have taken just 13. Considering their area of strength, could India contemplate opening their attack with an off-spinner, especially as Australia’s opening pair of Nicole Bolton and Beth Mooney are both left-handed?Chopra isn’t sold on the idea and says any strategy India employ will rely heavily on how well they do with the bat, if they win the toss and take first strike.”All these tactics will come into play if the Indian team is able to put up a good score in excess of 250-260 on the board and then come out defending it,” she said. “I am not a big fan of bowling the second over in English conditions with a spinner, no matter what the wicket is like. I still feel in these conditions the first few overs should be bowled by the quicks. In women’s cricket, only one ball is used throughout the innings, so the shine of the ball can only be utilised in those initial overs, not later.”If India do get past Australia, it will be their second entry into a World Cup final. Chopra was a member of the team that reached the final in 2005, losing to Australia by 98 runs in Centurion. After a lifetime in the game, including an international career spanning 17 years, she is enthused by the positive vibes around women’s cricket at the moment and confesses to being pleasantly surprised at the scale of interest.”It is wonderful to see the response back home,” she said. “I have to confess I never expected it. I knew it would be a very big coverage before the start of the World Cup or before the build-up but the way the response has come about, I think it is phenomenal. The reason is the Indian team is winning and also that the men aren’t playing a series presently! Even the men’s cricketers, their support coming in the form of tweets, with encouraging words to the players, it has been phenomenal.”

Leeds Could Copy Alf Haaland Success With "Electric" £40k-p/w Target

Leeds United need to act quickly if they are to enjoy the summer of transfer revolution that will propel them back into the top flight. Having focused on the defence, they could now turn their attention to the other end of the field…

Is Emmanuel Dennis leaving Nottingham Forest?

Of the various offensive targets that have emerged throughout the window, few stand out like Emmanuel Dennis, who ticks many boxes with regard to quality, availability and price tag, all of which would have piqued manager Daniel Farke's interest.

The Nigerian marksman has been linked on many occasions now, with the latest report emerging just last month. It is noted within that his exit has already been sanctioned by Nottingham Forest, who surely have to cull their bloated squad further after last summer's recruitment drive.

Read the latest Leeds transfer news HERE…

He is valued at €10.7m (£9m) by FootballTransfers, despite still having three years left on his £40k-per-week deal at the City Ground.

How good is Emmanuel Dennis?

By securing such a coup from the Tricky Trees, Farke would be gaining a versatile forward capable of leading the line on his own, playing within a striker partnership, or even operating from out wide.

Wherever he is put though, one thing is certain: he will bring goals.

The 25-year-old titan only moved to England in 2021 and took no time acclimatising to life with Watford despite the troubles that surrounded the club. Even as they fell to the drop, Dennis posted ten goals and a further six assists, with his move to Nottingham expected to continue this trend.

However, for whatever reason, Steve Cooper only afforded the finisher six starts in the league last term.

It is this lack of faith that has handed the Whites an opportunity to prey on his expected frustration, bringing him to Elland Road with the promise that he will surely be their main man.

With experience of starring at the level above the Championship, they will hope he can not only fire them back into the top-flight but help them remain there for longer than their most recent stint.

alf-haaland

After all, journalist Josh Bunting did outline just how prolific Dennis had been during that aforementioned campaign:

"Emmanuel Dennis has been one of the most underrated players outside of Watford fans this season, he’s been a very good addition. 4 goals and 5 assists in 11 Premier League games should be being spoken about much more. Today he was absolutely electric from the start to finish."

In securing a deal from Forest, the west Yorkshire outfit actually could replicate a success of the past, given Alf-Inge Haaland took that same path when he joined in 1997.

The Norwegian would go on to feature 87 times for the club, starring in one of their finest periods in recent history, despite the financial issues that rumbled on in the background. He was a fine utility man for George Graham and David O'Leary, even starring in their historic run to the Champions League semi-final in 2001.

His subsequent sale would also recoup the club a fine £2.5m fee, but it was not enough to save them from their subsequent debilitating drop through the divisions.

Should Dennis help them enjoy a period of success even half as enjoyable as the one which Haaland frequented, then this would be another deal from Forest certainly worth making.

Leeds Could Sign ‘Outstanding’ £8m Beckford Heir

Leeds United must act quickly if they are to realise their promotion ambitions this season, with a few key additions still sorely needed…

Who are Leeds United signing this summer?

For the Whites, the window has been marred by a stream of frustrating outgoings rather than statement incomings, with a number of their stars jumping ship as their various relegation clauses whir into action.

As such, the acquisitions of Sam Byram, Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu are offset by the exits of Rodrigo, Robin Koch, Max Wober, Marc Roca, Rasmus Kristensen, Brenden Aaronson and now Jack Harrison. Plenty of names that now need replacing.

Fortunately, this has likely freed up plenty of finances, which may allow Daniel Farke to invest heavily in a number of positions, notably a striker.

In fact, The Sun's Alan Nixon, speaking to his Patreon, suggested that the Yorkshire outfit have joined the hunt to capture Everton's promising young striker, as Preston North End seek to re-sign last campaign's loanee.

With Leeds' interest a permanent one, it is thought that Sean Dyche will accept a bid of no less than £8m for his services.

Who is Tom Cannon?

Although he has been starved of first-team action at his permanent club, his exploits at youth level spurred the Lilywhites to take a calculated risk by bringing him in on loan last term.

It took a small while for him to acclimatise to the physical demands of Championship football, but once he got started it felt like he could trouble any defence in the division.

Failing to score in his first seven league matches, the 20-year-old would then record eight goal contributions in his final 11 matches, helping his temporary side to a respectable 12th-placed finish. A further 12 goals came at youth level too, in what was a red-hot campaign for the young forward.

Perhaps having endured this teething period, he would now hit the ground running instantly at Elland Road, helping spearhead a successful season after their recent relegation.

Such form unsurprisingly earned plenty of praise too, with Hull City boss Liam Rosenior speaking highly of him after their 0-0 draw: "I thought Tom Cannon was outstanding, one of the best we've played against by far."

Such prolific form was always expected after how he had shone for Everton's U21s and below, having scored eight in 23 Premier League 2 matches during the 2021/22 term, and a further ten with four assists in the U18 Premier League the year prior.

With his ties to the Toffees, and his speed that partners his tall slender frame, it is hard not to draw comparisons with Jermaine Beckford.

jermaine-beckford

The 39-year-old featured for both of the clubs in question, having emerged through Leeds' academy to help fire them out of League One. He scored 101 goals in 176 games within that division, but was shipped off to Goodison Park due to their ongoing financial issues and his desire to play at a higher level.

Cannon too boasts that same physicality, standing at a slightly smaller 5 foot 11, with his speed emphasised in a 2020 player profile made by the Liverpool Echo: "He scored a variety of efforts and due to his willingness to run in behind, play on the shoulder of defenders and work between the lines, comparisons to Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy have been drawn."

With this huge club craving another hero to emerge to propel them up through the divisions once more, perhaps a youthful striker with a penchant for scoring in the Championship could emerge once again, emulating the heroics of Beckford to instead return them to the Premier League this time.

Ex-executivo do Grêmio e presidente do Fortaleza exaltam Everton Cebolinha

Sri Lanka's 'upset' adds significance to day-night Test

Pakistan were favourites to begin due to Sri Lanka’s misadventures more than their own conquests. Now that the ‘underdogs’ are leading 1-0, there’s much to play for with the pink ball

The Preview by Danyal Rasool05-Oct-2017

Francois Nel/Getty Images

Big PictureIt is a truth universally acknowledged, that seven days ago, disillusionment with the Sri Lankan team was greater than it has been at any point in the past two decades. This was a team that had lost a five-match ODI series at home against Zimbabwe, a first in their history. This was a team that was whitewashed across formats by India at home just weeks earlier, losing all nine games; they had lost fewer home games to India in the entire 1990s. This was a team that couldn’t decide on a coach, settle on a captain, or chance upon a victory. They were just about to play a Test match against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, a venue where Pakistan had never lost in the format. It was the first match in a two-Test series against Pakistan, who had never lost a Test series in the UAE.Pakistan-Sri Lanka contests are often unpredictable, but Sri Lanka’s win in Abu Dhabi must still rank as one of the more remarkable in the island nation’s history. Since Pakistan shifted base to the UAE in 2009, England and Australia have combined to play eight Tests against them in the desert, losing seven and never winning one. It is the place Pakistan have sought refuge in after foreign wallopings, relishing grinding opposition to dust in the oppressive heat before spinning them out cheaply. For Sri Lanka to be at their weakest, and even more so playing without their talisman Angelo Mathews, and to match Pakistan and sucker-punch them at the death is an achievement that deserves more attention that it’ll get. But then again, that’s Pakistan-Sri Lanka contests for you.So the second Test in Dubai takes on a particularly fateful air for the hosts. The second day-night Test at the venue could finally see the sun set on Pakistan’s spotless record at their adopted home. If they cannot pull off a win, it will see Sri Lanka (Sri Lanka!) become the first team to win a Test series against Pakistan in Dubai. It could very well happen, too. Pakistan came into the series favourites not due to doing anything special themselves, but because of the turmoil of their visitors. The fifth day collapse in Abu Dhabi – an alarming trend over the past two years – reminded everyone how vulnerable they are in the absence of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan. Losing the toss and having to bowl first might have made people notice how frequently they’ve been lucky with the coin at home over the past few Tests; they had won the toss in all home Tests against Australia, Sri Lanka, England and West Indies in the past three years. Whether they can bowl teams out cheaply on the first day is very much up for debate. For Sri Lanka, who interim coach Nic Pothas recently said were sick of talking about transition, this is a marquee opportunity to build a solid foundation from the rock bottom they reached in the India series. Captain Dinesh Chandimal, who has often been derided as inconsistent, will have found form and confidence with a gritty unbeaten 155, while the evergreen Rangana Herath continues to lurk in the minds of Pakistan’s batsmen, needing no further invitation to prove his class now that he’s joined the elite 400-wicket club. For both sides, then, this is a rare phenomena. It is a Test that actually really matters.Form guidePakistan: LWLWLSri Lanka: WLLLWIn the spotlightWhile the clamour for Fawad Alam’s return to the side has grown to fever pitch, one can hardly overlook that Haris Sohail made a stellar debut in Abu Dhabi. He was the top aggregate run-scorer for Pakistan, scoring 76 and 34 – the only batsman to score more than 20 runs in that disastrous fourth innings. After a lengthy absence from the international stage, he showed the grit and patience required of any cricketer playing a Test match in theEmirates, batting intelligently with the tail in the first innings, and combining with his captain for a 42-run partnership in the second that at one stage looked like it might get his side home. There is a yawning gap in Pakistan’s middle order for reasons well documented, and if Haris wants to slot in there, he has made a good start. Dubai is a chance to build on it.Kusal Mendis, touted as a future Sri Lankan captain, had a poor outing in Abu Dhabi. With Kaushal Silva and Lahiru Thirimanne also disappointing in the first Test, Sri Lanka might be worried about looking to their lower-middle order to continue to bail them out. Niroshan Dickwella had a terrific game, but, he’s also the wicketkeeper, and Sri Lanka might not want to burden him with too many expectations in every game. The point need hardly be made, but Sri Lanka know better than anyone that not all left-hand wicketkeepers are the same.Team newsPakistan are set to continue with their 3-1 quicks-spin combination, with Wahab Riaz replacing Hasan Ali, who misses the game with a back complaint. No other changes are expected.Pakistan (probable): 1 Sami Aslam, 2 Shan Masood, 3 Azhar Ali, 4 Asad Shafiq, 5 Babar Azam, 6 Haris Sohail, 7 Sarfraz Ahmed (capt & wk), 8 Mohammad Amir, 9 Yasir Shah, 10 Wahab Riaz, 11 Mohammad AbbasSri Lanka were dealt a blow when Angelo Mathews was ruled out of the second Test as well. Lahiru Thirimanne joins him on the sidelines with a back injury. Sadeera Samarawickrama is likely to make his debut in Thirimanne’s place.Sri Lanka (probable): 1 Dimuth Karunaratne, 2 Kaushal Silva, 3 Sadeera Samarawickrama, 4 Kusal Mendis, 5 Dinesh Chandimal (capt), 6 Niroshan Dickwella (wk), 7 Dilruwan Perera, 8 Rangana Herath, 9 Suranga Lakmal, 10 Lakshan Sandakan, 11 Nuwan PradeepPitch and conditionsDinesh Chandimal reckoned the pitch was similar to Abu Dhabi’s in its dryness. Humidity levels will be high, something Sarfraz thought would assist the quick bowlers. How the pink ball plays under lights is, to a large extent, still an unknown quantity.Stats and trivia Pakistan will slip to seventh in the rankings if they fail to win this match. That will be their lowest position since October 2010. This time last year, they were No. 1 If one can consider India’s Harbhajan Singh done with Test cricket – which he isn’t, officially – Rangana Herath is the only active spinner with 400 wickets. The only other active bowlers overall who have crossed the mark are England’s James Anderson and South Africa’s Dale Steyn
