Shrubsole’s side make it two from two after dominant bowling display limits hosts to 110

Smriti Mandhana drove Southern Brave’s chase with a fluent fifty•Getty Images
Southern Brave 112 for 2 (Mandhana 61*) beat Welsh Fire 110 for 7 (Matthews 33) by eight wicketsSouthern Brave produced a clinical all-round display to pick up a second consecutive victory of the tournament, their pursuit of Welsh Fire’s modest target overseen by an unbeaten 61 from India opener Smriti Mandhana.Cardiff’s opener in the Hundred came with the threat of rain but the sun was shining by the time Anya Shrubsole’s batters had completed the job with 16 balls to spare. Shrubsole won the toss and inserted the home side under glowering skies and then led the way in harness with 20-year-old Lauren Bell, who once again impressed in claiming the wickets of Fire’s two international-class batters, Hayley Matthews and Sarah Taylor.Fire struggled to get going, despite Matthews peeling off six boundaries – including an eye-catching uppercut over mid-off – in making 33 from 20, and were going at less than a run a ball for most of the innings. Georgia Redmayne attempted to dig in and see the innings through but managed just one four during her 15 from 20 before she became the second run-out of an impressive Brave display in the field.Georgia Hennessy was the only other batter to reach double-figures, cuffing and scrapping 23 from 24 as a shower swept through, but Brave walked off the happier at halfway. They were soon ahead of the asking rate, as Fire struggled for either wickets or the required economy, Mandhana taking advantage of being dropped on 26 to complete the formalities in company of Stafanie Taylor.Brave’s game face Having won from adversity in their opener away to Trent Rockets, Brave pulled out another two points on the road thanks to a much more dominant display. Where they had been forced to drag themselves up from the depths of 57 for 5 at Trent Bridge, here they followed up another suffocating display with the ball – they have twice conceded just 110 from 100 – by flexing some of the top-order muscle that makes them one of the favourites for this competition.Although Danni Wyatt fell relatively cheaply, thanks to some trademark excellence from Sarah Taylor in taking a glove down the leg side, and Sophia Dunkley miscued a full toss, Mandhana took up the cudgels to drive Brave’s chase with a 35-ball fifty. Mandhana ticked up through the gears and eventually finished the match with her third six. Charlotte Edwards, the coach, clearly has her side well drilled and with their first home match coming up later this week, they will be looking to get on a roll.Clear as a Bell Fire had made a solid-if-unspectacular start to their innings, 50 for 2 after 45 balls and with Matthews beginning to purr after thrashing the legspin of Amanda-Jade Wellington for a pair of imperious, back-to-back boundaries – one off the back foot, one off the front. With the slow bowlers looking vulnerable, Shrubsole went back to her tall, willowy spearhead, Bell. Her initial spell had seen more than a couple of inswingers disappear down leg, but after starting with a slower delivery to the set Matthews, which was pushed for a single, Bell went back to what she later described as her “best ball”. Full and curling in, Matthews flashed a drive but only succeeded in sending a thick edge to backward point. Better was to come, as Bell repeated the mantra at the top of her mark and then defeated the new batter, Sarah Taylor, with a booming indipper. Bell’s best ball was good enough to deal with two of the very best.Spin mystery Cardiff does not have a reputation for aiding spin, not least because of the short, straight boundaries that can be a target in limited-overs cricket – but it did not seem as if the memo had made it through to either side before this game. Brave brought in Charlotte Taylor and her non-turning offbreaks, but she ended up being her side’s most expensive bowler, going for 19 from 10 – although she did also buy the wicket of Sophie Luff, who was stumped after taking six runs off the previous two deliveries. As the second innings began, however, Fire said “hold my beer”. Bryony Smith’s offbreaks had gone relatively well when she opened the bowling in their opener at Headingley, but she was immediately given the charge by Wyatt, who boshed a brace of fours through the covers in the first five. Smith was then brought back inside the Powerplay from the River End and saw Mandhana, who up to that point had 4 from 5, advance out to dump her into the stands; 10 metres more and it would have been in the Taff.Mandhana doubtless knows plenty about playing spin bowling and later in the chase she targeted Fire’s leggie, Nicole Harvey. Mandhana drove her second ball from Harvey down the ground, and although she should have been caught in the same set – Alex Griffiths missing a straightforward chance at deep midwicket – another straight six and swept four, meant the opener took 18 runs from eight Harvey deliveries, as Brave coasted towards their target.Curiously, for the second match running, left-arm seamer Katie George, who has been capped by England but spent her winter recovering from a back stress fracture, did not bowl while batting down at No. 9. Whatever the case there, Fire need to work out a more effective strategy for playing on their home patch.
Everton may have picked up their first point of the Premier League season during the weekend draw against Leicester City, but the pressure is certainly building on Sean Dyche.
With it being the final season at Goodison Park, the supporters would have been expecting a chance of reaching the top half of the table, rather than yet another relegation scrap.
Everton manager Sean Dyche
While they were better against the Foxes, Dyche must start to pick up wins in the top flight sooner rather than later, no doubt about that.
With a new ownership group on the way in the form of The Friedkin Group (TFG), they may well be considering a potential replacement for the former Burnley manager. Now, it looks as though an Englishman currently out of work seems to be keen on the job…
Former Chelsea boss keen on Everton
According to Football Insider, Graham Potter is reportedly ‘very interested’ in taking the Everton job if it becomes available in the next few weeks.
The 49-year-old has been out of management since being sacked by Chelsea towards the end of the 2022/23 campaign, despite only taking charge of the Blues a few months prior.

It is clear he is waiting for the right opportunity before jumping back into the game, but Everton could be an excellent project for Potter to get stuck into.
Graham Potter as Chelsea manager
Could it finally be time for the former Brighton and Hove Albion boss to return to the dugout?

David Moyes has been linked with a move to Merseyside, 11 years after he departed the club to take over Manchester United.
While Moyes enjoyed an excellent spell with West Ham United, he is certainly approaching the end of his managerial career, which makes the more attacking-minded Potter a much better appointment.
The Englishman made his name at Swedish side Ostersunds, taking them from the lower leagues into the top flight and Europe, winning the Swedish Cup too.
It was his time at Brighton that Potter established himself as one of the brightest young managers on the continent. He built the foundations for the club to become one of the most difficult to beat teams in the division, leading them to a top-half finish during the 2021/22 campaign.
Potter was hailed by journalist Sam Morton following the sales of Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma, saying: “It was a shame to see Cucurella and Bissouma leave Brighton but Graham Potter is the only irreplaceable asset at the club, you feel. The man is a genius.”
Although Roberto De Zerbi took the club into Europe, Potter’s influence at the club allowed the Italian to continue the progress made by the 49-year-old.
Moyes may be the nostalgic choice, returning to a club in which he took from the doldrums to European qualification and an FA Cup final. But given the choice, surely the supporters would rather Potter be the man chosen to replace Dyche.
The next few weeks could be very interesting indeed.

The WI-Aus ODIs were rescheduled after a non-playing member from the WI camp had tested positive

Bangladesh are set to host Australia for five T20Is in August•Getty Images
The BCB is prepared to handle a delay for their home T20I series against Australia after the West Indies-Australia ODIs were rescheduled. The second ODI between West Indies and Australia was postponed moments before the first ball after a positive Covid test emerged from a non-playing member of the West Indies squad. The second ODI will now restart on Saturday with the final match taking place on Monday. Australia are then scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on July 29, with the first of the five T20Is to be played on August 3.”We haven’t discussed the matter with Cricket Australia yet but a delay wouldn’t be a problem,” BCB’s chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told . “We are hopeful about the Australia series. Neither of the teams have anything after this series. It will be okay if there’s a delay of a few days.”Related

Mushfiqur Rahim out of Australia T20Is
The delay might pave the way for Mushfiqur Rahim’s return after the batter missed entering the Dhaka bio-bubble on the due date. The quarantine was originally set to begin on July 22 and later it was brought up to July 20. Neither team would have been able to arrive in Dhaka by that date because Bangladesh were on tour in Zimbabwe and Australia were on tour in the West Indies. So the BCB and CA agreed that so long as their players remained inside a secure bio-bubble – Bangladesh in Harare and Australia in Gros Islet and Bridgetown – it could count towards their quarantine time in Dhaka. As a result, the BCB contacted Rahim and asked him to stay back in Zimbabwe for the entire duration of the tour. Initially, he was meant to return home after the end of the ODI leg. But, complications arose when Rahim’s parents fell sick and he had to fly home early.Chowdhury, however, did not rule out renegotiating with CA about Rahim’s inclusion.”It is worrying not to have someone like Mushfiq in the team,” he said. “We will keep trying in that regard. We are still in touch about this, and not just because there might be a delay in the tour. We are waiting for their reply.”The two boards have agreed on stringent safety measures for the tour, including quarantine for ten days before Australia’s arrival in Bangladesh. The visitors will have their passports processed separately, the team hotel more tightly secured and the five matches played in one venue within seven days.

Liverpool have displayed no real teething issues transitioning into the brand new Arne Slot regime away from the old familiar ways of club legend Jurgen Klopp.
There is one loss next to their name from seven Premier League encounters, as Nottingham Forest stunned Anfield in a surprise 1-0 win for the away team back in September, but every other game has been a win as Slot’s well-oiled machine sit at the very top of the top-flight pile.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot
Liverpool’s last win in the league away at Crystal Palace even saw the Dutchman tinker with his line-up, despite his side’s faultless streak of victories, with Dominik Szobozslai dropped to the substitutes bench alongside Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.
Szoboszlai has had a mixed time in the Reds first-team fold as of late, with top-drawer displays against the likes of Manchester United this season standing out, whilst a flat showing against a relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers outfit left a lot to be desired on the contrary.
Szoboszlai's season so far
The former RB Salzburg midfielder would impress in patches during this debut season in England, after making the move over from Austria to play for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds last summer.
Szoboszlai would pick up three goals and two assists from 33 Premier League games under the German’s guidance, with the new methods of Slot really working in his favour during the infancy of this campaign too.
Dominik Szoboszlai
Under the ex-Feyenoord manager, the 23-year-old has often been deployed in a more attacking role, with one goal and three assists coming his way from nine games so far.
But, unlike Ryan Gravenberch who continues to put in stellar displays week in week out in the middle of the park, the Hungarian midfielder’s form has dropped somewhat, leading to his exclusion from the main team against the Eagles.
Dominik Szoboszlai looks dejected for Liverpool
Away at Molineux to close out September, Szoboszlai visibly struggled in his side’s narrow 2-1 win, with only 26 accurate passes registered and one shot tallied up before Curtis Jones was launched into the game in his place.
The Reds will be keeping their fingers crossed that the ex-Salzburg star can shine bright again as Slot’s men strive to pick up more league victories, with some regret on their end now that they didn’t persist more in a deal to snap up one outrageous talent around the same time the 23-year-old’s signature was won.
When Liverpool tried to sign Bellingham
In April last year, the Reds reportedly dropped out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham after Liverpool had held a long-standing interest in the England star’s services.
Jude Bellingham celebrates winning the Champions League
The £135m price tag that had been placed above the Borussia Dortmund man’s head was deemed too much to cough up on the Premier League side’s end, with Szoboszlai then acquired for a lesser £60m.

Whilst Bellingham has experienced a slow start to this season donning a Real Madrid jersey, last season saw the 21-year-old become a man-possessed for the La Liga giants after his bumper switch from Germany, with a ridiculous 23 goals scored from midfield across 42 clashes.
Slot would love to have the superstar at his disposal in attacking midfield in the here and now, having bemoaned Szoboszlai’s low goalscoring numbers as one reason why he was dropped for the trip to Selhurst Park, with the exceptional talent also a hero in front of goal for his nation.
Bellingham would score an audacious overhead kick at the death during this summer’s Euro 2024 tournament to keep the Three Lions in the competition against Slovakia, with his top displays even helping Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions reach the final, only to then come unstuck versus Spain.
The former Birmingham City youth product turned world-class star would have been content with his trophy haul back at the Santiago Bernabeu anyway, lifting the La Liga trophy alongside the Champions League in his debut season, with his value – as per CIES Football Observatory’s player value tool – now up to a staggering £235m off the back of his heroics in Madrid.
Slot will just have to persist with Szoboszlai moving forward, away from any past blunders Liverpool have made in the transfer market, as the table-toppers pray that they can stay perched at the top of the Premier League pile for the foreseeable.
Liverpool wanted to sign £50m star for Klopp but ended up with Szoboszlai
Would he have been the better fit for Arne Slot’s side?

– that players and others will have to adhere to.What are the prerequisites for travelling to the UAE for IPL 2021? Everyone making the trip must take a RT-PCR test 72 hours before their scheduled departure. If the test is negative, they may travel to the franchises’ cities of choice.Do the players who are already in biosecure bubbles qualify for bubble-to-bubble transfers? Players, support staff, commentators and broadcast crew travelling directly from the biosecure bubbles created for the England vs India series, Sri Lanka vs South Africa series and the Caribbean Premier League can move directly from one bubble to another. They need not serve the mandatory quarantine period in the UAE provided they satisfy the following criteria. After the conclusion of their respective series, they continue to remain in their biosecure environments and are transported in the team buses straight to the airports, where they are exempted from immigration and other formalities. A chartered aircraft is booked exclusively for them to travel to Dubai. Upon arrival at the Dubai airport, the team buses pick them up from the tarmac and drop them at the team hotels, thereby preventing contact with people outside the bubble. All such individuals will have to undergo one RT-PCR test on the day of arrival. If the test report is negative, they will be allowed to join their respective teams. What about the others? Other participants will have to quarantine for six days upon arrival and undergo three RT-PCR tests, on days two, four and six, before being allowed to train or participate in IPL matches.
