Manchester United look to be closing in on the appointment of Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, and the Portuguese is now expected to be joined by a 28-year-old and 29-year-old at Old Trafford, according to a recent report.

The Red Devils sacked Ten Hag on Monday afternoon, and by that evening they were already working on a deal for Amorim. The Portuguese has agreed in principle to take the Man Utd job, and Sporting confirmed to the Portuguese stock exchange on Tuesday that United are willing to meet Amorim’s release clause.

The 39-year-old was in charge of Sporting’s game against Nacional on Tuesday night, overseeing a 3-1 win in the cup, and after the game, Amorim kept quiet on talk about a move to United. He said to the local media: “Nothing is decided yet. I don’t know if it’s the farewell game or not.”

As Amorim looks to be closing in on a move to United, it has already been reported that star player Bruno Fernandes is “delighted” that he has been chosen as Ten Hag’s replacement. Fernandes is said to be a huge admirer of the manager, and the Red Devils will hope his arrival can help the Portuguese star get back in form.

So, as Amorim closes in on his United move, there has been an update on what his coaching setup at Old Trafford could look like.

According to iNews, Amorim is expected to be joined by his two trusted assistants when he moves to Old Trafford. Carlos Fernandes, 29, and Adelio Candido, 28, have both worked with the 39-year-old at Sporting and Braga, and they are now expected to move to Manchester as well.

This means that current interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy expects to leave the Red Devils as Amorim eyes his own coaching team. The Dutchman joined United in the summer as Ten Hag’s new assistant manager, a move that was deemed popular by supporters.

Van Nistelrooy is in charge of United’s game against Leicester City on Wednesday evening in the Carabao Cup, and he will be hoping to make a very good impression in front of the fans who adore him.

وحسبما ذكرت صحيفة “ماركا” الإسبانية، فإن فيفا أعلن موقفًا صارمًا تجاه ناديي باتشوكا وليون المشاركين في كأس العالم للأندية 2025.

البداية كانت عندما أعلن الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم أن أحد الناديين لن يشارك في البطولة المرتقبة، لكونهما ينتميان إلى ملكية واحدة، مما يعني مخالفة القواعد.

وقال باتشوكا في بيان رسمي: “قبل لحظات، أبلغنا الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم (فيفا) أن أحد الفريقين المشاركين في كأس العالم للأندية 2025، باتشوكا وليون، سيتم استبعاده من المنافسة، ولم يتم إبلاغنا بأسباب هذا القرار”.

وأضاف: “نحن غير راضين عن هذا القرار، وسنستأنف أمام أعلى محكمة وأعلى هيئة رياضية، حيث سيتم تقديم كافة الأدلة والوثائق التي تثبت استقلاليتنا الإدارية والرياضية في الوقت المناسب وبطريقة شفافة”.

وواصل: “سيقرر الأمين العام للمنظمة أي الناديين لن يشارك، وبالنسبة لنا، سندافع عما فزنا به في الملعب بطريقة عادلة ومهنية ووفقًا لقواعد المنافسة”.

وبعد ذلك، أوضحت صحيفة “آس” الإسبانية أن رئيس لجنة الاستئناف في فيفا تيقن من مخالفة ناديي باتشوكا وليون للمعايير المتعلقة بملكية الأندية، حسب القانون المنصوص عليه.

ولهذا السبب، قرر الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم عدم السماح لنادي ليون بالمشاركة في البطولة وأعلن أنه سيكشف عن بديله في الوقت المناسب، حسب المادة 10 الفقرة رقم 4 في اللوائح (دون الكشف عن ماهيتها أو السبب وراء تفضيل ناِد على آخر).

وأوضح ليون في بيان رسمي أنه غير راضِ عن موقف فيفا تجاهه، وينوي التحرك رسميًا لضمان مشاركته في البطولة.

ويشارك باتشوكا المكسيكي في البطولة بصفته بطل كونكاكاف 2024، في حين أن كلوب ليون المكسيكي هو بطل نسخة 2023 من البطولة نفسها.

ويقع باتشوكا في المجموعة الثامنة في كأس العالم للأندية رفقة كل من ريال مدريد الإسباني، الهلال السعودي وسالزبورج النمساوي.

في حين أن كلوب ليون يتواجد في المجموعة الرابعة رفقة كل من الترجي التونسي، تشيلسي الإنجليزي وفلامينجو البرازيلي.

As duas melhores chegadas dos donos da casa no primeiro tempo aconteceram em jogadas de Raniel. Na primeira, o atacante fez o pivô e deixou Weverton em condições de finalizar, mas Fernando defendeu. Depois de abrir o placar, o Vasco viu o Boavista se lançar a ataque e tentar o empate. Em uma bela jogada, Miguel soltou uma bomba no canto e obrigou Thiago Rodrigues a fazer grande defesa. Aos 38, Galarza falhou na marcação e após um cruzamento na área de Matheus Alessandro, Wandinho completou para o fundo da meta cruz-maltina.

وحسبما ذكرت صحيفة “ماركا” الإسبانية، فإن فليك علم بالموعد الجديد لمباراة برشلونة وأوساسونا في ملعب التدريبات في برشلونة اليوم، حيث كان يتواجد رفقة اللاعبين القلائل الذين لا يتواجدون رفقة منتخباتهم في المعسكر الدولي، إلى جانب بعض من فريقي الرديف والشاب.

وأفادت بأن فليك اشتد غضبه عندما علم أن موعد مباراة برشلونة وأوساسونا هو الخميس الذي يلي فترة التوقف الدولي مباشرة.

وأشارت إلى أن فليك لم يتفهم كيفية تحديد موعد مثل هذا، وكيف يمكن للاتحاد الإسباني أن يحدد توقيت مباراة وهو يعلم تمامًا أن برشلونة سيكون بدون لاعبين مثل رافينها وأراوخو، حيث سيتواجدان رفقة البرازيل وأوروجواي، بخلاف آخرين.

وأوضحت أن فليك لا يستطيع إدراك كيفية خوض مباراة دون أن يمتلك القدرة للاعتماد على كافة لاعبيه.

وينتظر فليك نتيجة الاستئناف الذي ينوي نادي برشلونة التقدم به خلال الساعات المقبلة من أجل الاعتراض على الموعد المُعلن عنه، حيث يرى أن أفضل توقيت هو ما بين الجولة 37 و38 من الدوري.

‘Fielding, bowling biggest positives’
Looking back at the series win, Rohit said that there were two standout positives for India. First, the fielding, which saved them around 15 runs each in the first two games, and secondly, how they managed to restrict New Zealand in the first two games despite being put on the back foot early on.In Jaipur, India took five wickets for 68 runs in the last eight overs to keep New Zealand down to 164 and in Ranchi, New Zealand managed to score only 153 despite a 64-run powerplay. In Kolkata, too, New Zealand’s batters were stymied by a varied bowling attack that bowled them out for 111 batting second in dewy conditions.Much of the praise from Rohit went to the spin duo of Axar and R Ashwin. “I think it’s been a great comeback for Ashwin,” Rohit said. “He has proved himself with the red ball and even with the white ball, he doesn’t have a bad record. It’s been a patchy start to the season for the Magpies, but Eddie Howe’s squad carry plenty of class and showcased their quality as they breezed into the quarter-finals, with Brentford travelling to St. James’ Park for that one.

Sat in 12th place in the league with just three wins from nine matches, there’s plenty of work to do, and though Arsenal are the opponents at the weekend, Alexander Isak is finding his feet, having dismantled the Chelsea defence.

There’s no need to shirk away from the fact that Isak has started the season slowly. Who cares, for the Swede has now scored in successive matches, both against Chelsea, and looks to have hit his stride at the perfect time for Howe’s goal-shy side.

Last season, he posted 25 goals across 40 appearances, and though he only has three from nine outings this term, the 25-year-old is starting to reclaim his usual gusto.

Newcastle’s suffocating press forced Chelsea into an error that Isak ate greedily, claiming possession after the impressive Sandro Tonali’s challenge and thumping home. He also played a big part in the Toon’s other goal and will be delighted with his efforts.

It was an excellent and clinical display, and that’s despite completing only six passes all evening and losing possession 14 times, as per Sofascore.

He left something wanting in his crispness to be sure, and for that reason, he wasn’t Howe’s finest performer of the night. That would be Joelinton, who was immense in the engine room.

Joelinton was immense for Newcastle

Joelinton has ebbed and flowed this season but produced arguably his finest display of the 2024/25 campaign against Chelsea in midweek, with his energy and pressing instrumental in the victory.

It was a showing that turned heads, with the Northern Echo awarding the Brazil international with an 8/10 match rating, writing of his performance: ‘Set the tone for Newcastle’s display with his aggressive pressing – looked better in a more advanced role.’

Having won 75% of his dribbles, offered composed crispness in possession and indeed brought the tireless and raging energy levels that were requisite for success against Maresca’s Chelsea team, Joelinton sure did catch the eye in a more advanced role.

He benefitted greatly from the slickness of Sandro Tonali a bit deeper, coming into his own even though his compatriot Bruno Guimaraes entered the fray after the break.

Isak might be Newcastle’s chief goalscorer, but Joelinton offers some physicality and expression in the middle of the park that can have quite the ripple effect.

He’s an integral part of Howe’s unit, and must now use this display as a launchpad to make a marked impact on the Magpies’ season.

One of the most prominent names touted for a move to the Emirates in the last week or so has been Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, but recent reports have now linked a potential alternative with a move to the club, a central midfielder who’s been in such good form that he’s currently outscoring Bukayo Saka.

According to a recent report from Caught Offside, Arsenal are one of several teams interested in Ajax star Kenneth Taylor, and have already sent scouts to watch him play.

Alongside the Gunners, the report has revealed that fellow Premier League sides Newcastle United and Aston Villa and Italian giants Napoli have all been keeping tabs on the Dutch midfielder.

While this level of interest is far from ideal, the good news is that an offer of around €35m, which is about £29m, should be enough to tempt the Amsterdam outfit into selling, per the report.

It would still represent a significant investment from Arsenal, but given Taylor’s sensational form this season, it is one worth making, especially as he could prove an ideal alternative to Zubimendi.

How Taylor compares to Zubimendi

Now, while Taylor can play in a few positions and has here and there throughout his career, he is primarily a central midfielder, while Zubimendi has shown he’s capable of playing in both central and defensive midfield roles for club and country.

So, while this does suggest that there is a world in which they could play together at Arsenal, that seems incredibly unlikely given the players already at Arteta’s disposal, such as Declan Rice, Mikel Merino and possibly Thomas Partey and Jorginho, should they remain at the club beyond the summer.

Therefore, it will likely be one or the other between the two midfield targets, so how do they stack up against one another?

Well, the first thing to look at is their raw output, and in this metric, it’s not even close, as the Ajax “revelation”, as dubbed by former Ajax manager Aad de Mos, comes out way ahead with six goals and four assists to his name in 21 games, which is significantly more impressive than the Sociedad ace’s tally of one goal and two assists in 16 games, and means he’s even outscored Saka this year.

What’s going on under the hood, though? Which midfielder comes out on top when we compare their underlying numbers?

Well, it depends on the metrics you are looking at, as somewhat unsurprisingly, the Spaniard comes out ahead in most defensive metrics, such as ball recoveries, tackles, clearances and interceptions per 90.

However, in practically every other metric, such as expected and actual non-penalty goals plus assists, progressive carries, key passes, passes into the final third and penalty area, shot and goal-creating actions all per 90, it’s the Ajax star who comes out comfortably on top.

Ultimately, it comes down to whether Arteta wants another more defensive midfielder in his squad or one who’s more likely to make something happen, and based on Arsenal’s slightly lacklustre attack this season, it certainly feels like Taylor would be the smarter signing in 2025.
