Tottenham fans pay tribute to club’s former midfielder Van der Vaart

Rafael Van der Vaart spent two years with Tottenham Hotspur between 2010 and 2012, and it would be fair to say that the Dutchman made an impression on the club’s supporters.

The midfielder scored 28 goals in 77 appearances for Spurs – hitting double figures in each of his two full seasons with the capital club, which is some going for a player that was new to English football.

The Dutchman left Tottenham for Hamburger SV in 2012, and after a spell at Real Betis, joined FC Midtjylland, who he still represents.

At the age of 34, there is still some football left in the legs of Van der Vaart.

On Monday, Tottenham’s official Twitter account posted quotes from the former Netherlands international where he discussed returning to the club for the recent Champions League game against Real Madrid.

Van der Vaart claimed that it was like ‘going home’, and as expected, a number of Tottenham fans were on hand to pay tribute to the classy midfielder, who really should have spent more time in the Premier League.

Liverpool fans react to Virgil van Dijk’s performance against Everton

Liverpool target Virgil van Dijk was part of the Southampton side that beat Everton 4-1 in the Premier League at St Mary’s on Sunday, and Reds fans were quick to have their say on his performance.

Jurgen Klopp wanted to bring the Netherlands international to Anfield during the summer, but the Merseyside outfit were forced to issue a statement and public apology after they were accused of tapping the centre-back up.

The 26-year-old is now a permanent fixture in the Saints backline after being demoted to train with the U23s earlier in the campaign, and he had little to do against the Toffees in truth with Gylfi Sigurdsson’s stunning strike one of Everton’s few shots at goal.

However, he was strong in the air and calm on the ball, and Klopp would have been impressed having seen his team fail to keep a clean sheet again in their 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Saturday.

Liverpool supporters were quick to analyse his display via social media, and while one praised his “great balance and athleticism”, another believes he is “overrated”.

Man United fans react as Ivan Perisic scores a hat-trick for Inter Milan

Reported Manchester United target Ivan Perisic scored a hat-trick as Inter Milan beat Chievo Verona 5-0 at the San Siro on Sunday, and Red Devils fans were quick to have their say on his performance.

Jose Mourinho was keen to bring the Croatia international to Old Trafford during the summer, but executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was unable to agree on a fee for the 28-year-old with the Serie A giants.

The winger has now scored seven goals and provided a further six assists in 15 appearances in all competitions this season, having signed a new five-year deal just a week after the summer transfer window closed.

Man United supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the Croatian’s treble, and while one said “Woodward let Mourinho down big time by not signing Perisic”, another added ‘knew United should’ve signed him’.

Liverpool sensation could be forced into unwelcome change if FSG approve big transfer move

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their side can emerge from the hectic winter schedule with reason to believe that a title-challenge is possible.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have begun the season relatively well so far but they will be keen to improve their form during the crucial month of December. Indeed, The Reds in the Tavern are fully aware that their club are entering the most decisive period of the season when the games will arrive thick and fast prior to the re-opening of the January transfer window.

Almost everything positive about Liverpool’s attacking performance so far this season has been influenced by the club’s summer-signing Mo Salah, who has largely been deployed as a right-winger by Klopp so far.

This could be all set to change in the January window if rumours emerging from Portuguese media outlet A Bola linking Liverpool with a swoop for Sporting Lisbon’s Gelson Martins prove to be true.

The 22-year-old wing-wizard has already been capped 15 times by the Portuguese national team and he is one of Europe’s hottest young talents.

So far this season, Martins has already scored 6 goals and laid on 6 assists from 20 appearances in all competitions, including 3 assists in the Champions League.

Although Lisbon’s academy talent plays in the same position as Liverpool’s top-goalscorer Salah, he should have no problem breaking into the first-team at the club.

Klopp’s move for Martins suggests that he is ready to push Salah into a more central role to support Firmino up-front – a tactical move he has already made this season.

Liverpool have reaped the rewards from Salah’s performances as a centre-forward and the supporters should expect to see plenty more of Salah in a central role if they secure the services of Martins in January.

Arsenal must not let financial implications derail their move for Pavon

Arsenal’s alleged move for Cristian Pavon has been hit with a stumbling block after Boca Juniors raised his release clause to £37.5m, according to AS.

What’s the word?

New Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been busy in the transfer window, recruiting five new players so far.

The Spaniard has brought in right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, goalkeeper Bernd Leno, defender Sokratis, midfielder Lucas Torreira and teenager Mateo Guendouz.

Argentina international Pavon, who has earned nine caps for his country, has also been among the list of rumoured targets.

The latest news coming out of AS, though, is that Boca Juniors have raised the winger’s price tag to £37.5m following his performances at the World Cup in Russia.

How should Arsenal react?

If Arsenal are in the market for a new winger, then Pavon is certainly an impressive option.

Is this the best World Cup ever? Give us your thoughts here and win any World Cup shirt of your choice.

At the age of 22, the attack-minded player has already established himself in his homeland, and there is no doubt that he would strengthen the Gunners having scored seven goals and created 19 assists in 32 appearances in all competitions last term.

Providing support to Arsenal’s forward stars from wide areas is something that the Argentine could do comfortably, and he would guarantee that the north London outfit return to the Champions League after a two-year absence.

However, the price could be an issue for a club that appears to be spending on a budget this summer, but in today’s market the fee is not extravagant, and Sven Mislintat should take what might be seen as a risk by some.

Everton fans take to social media following shock link to Brazilian talent Malcom

If Bordeaux winger Malcom was going to join any Premier League club this summer, not many would have predicted that it would be Everton. The 21-year-old has been touted in the media as a possible target for Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. However, according to Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Everton are leading the chase for Malcom’s signature. On Twitter, the journalist claimed that the Merseyside outfit are willing to part with £30m to land the attack-minded star, as well as offer wages worth £80,000-per-week.

New Everton manager Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands have been taking their time in the transfer window, but if they manage to pull off a deal for Malcom, it would be a huge coup.

The young talent began his career at Corinthians, where he won the league title, before making the move to Bordeaux in 2016.

Malcom has netted 20 goals and created 13 assists in 84 Ligue 1 outings for the French club.

Everton have the likes of Cenk Tosun, Theo Walcott, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Ademola Lookman in attack, but adding Malcom will make the team look that much deadlier to opposing defences.

On Reddit, fans have been posting their thoughts on the speculation.

Silva should sign Zaha to transform Everton’s attack

Everton are biding their time in this transfer window, waiting for the right opportunity in the market to present itself rather than opting to pursue plan B type targets.

And the Toffees could be about to get their way with one player they have been keeping an eye on now rumoured to have become unsettled at his current club.

The Breakdown

According to the Daily Mail, Wilfried Zaha is eyeing up a move away from Crystal Palace this summer, which has alerted Everton.

£27m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Zaha is believed to be a key target for Everton’s new boss Marco Silva, who will have to fight off interest from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

However, one team who look set to have dropped out of the race for Zaha is Tottenham after baulking at Crystal Palace’s £60m price tag.

It is a price tag that may also deter Everton as well but, if Everton manage to get Zaha through the door, the Ivory Coast international would be a great acquisition.

Zaha has always been an incredible dribbler, but over the last couple of seasons he has started adding more goals to his game.

And under a coach like Silva in a team such as Everton’s, who most would expect to play more offensive and free-flowing football than Palace especially now that Sam Allardyce is gone, Zaha could reach a new level.

Even at £60m, there is no guarantee Crystal Palace would sell Zaha; they looked hopeless whenever he was absent from the team last campaign.

But the the 25-year-old is exactly the sort of player Everton should be trying to sign before the new Premier League season starts next month.

Liverpool fans refuse to believe Klopp is done in the transfer window

Liverpool have had a successful transfer window so far having recruited four new players.

Naby Keita arrived from RB Leipzig after agreeing to join the Reds a year ago, while defensive midfielder Fabinho signed from Monaco.

The Reds scooped up Xherdan Shaqiri following Stoke City’s relegation to the Championship, and on Thursday, the club smashed the world-record fee for a goalkeeper by landing Alisson’s signature from Roma.

According to BBC Sport, the Reds spent around £66.8m on the Brazilian international, who will take Loris Karius’s place in the team following the German’s blunders in the Champions League final.

Understandably, Liverpool fans are very excited by the new arrivals, but they continue to push for Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”255848″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Liverpool’s opening fixtures for the 201819 Premier League season”]

The France international was on the verge of joining the Reds before the Premier League club pulled out of a deal due to concerns over an underlying knee problem.

Rumours have persisted about a deal potentially being reignited, but while speaking to reporters after Liverpool’s pre-season match against Blackburn Rovers, Klopp suggested that the club will not be bringing in any more players.

Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce posted the manager’s quote on Twitter.

In response, some fans refused to take the comments for face value, suggesting that a deal for Fekir is still on.

Everton eye summer swoop for midfielder Zakaria

According to The Mirror, Everton boss Marco Silva is interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Things are finally moving for Everton on the transfer front, and it is shaping up to be a very busy couple of weeks at Goodison Park as head coach Silva looks to put together a squad capable of challenging the top six in the Premier League next term.

Richarlison has arrived from Watford, whilst the Toffees are also believed to be targeting a new left-back ahead of the big kickoff in the Premier League.

According to The Mirror, the Merseyside outfit are now eyeing a summer swoop for Zakaria, who is a holding midfielder at German club Gladbach.

The 21-year-old is under contract with his Bundesliga outfit until the summer of 2022 having only joined from Young Boys last year, but it is understood that Everton are confident of turning his head.

Would Zakaria improve Everton?

In short, yes. The 6ft 2in ace was a part of the Switzerland side that competed at the 2018 World Cup, and has shown over the last 12 months that he is more than capable of holding his own in a major European league.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”273047″ player=”12034″ title=”Power Ranking the 1819 Premier League kits”]

Last term, the 12-time international scored twice and provided three assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.

And he would be a huge upgrade on Morgan Schneiderlin, who has largely struggled to make his mark since moving to Everton from Manchester United in January 2017.

It is understood that Silva wants to play two holding midfielders in a 4-3-3 formation next season, and Zakaria is perfect for one of those two positions.

Gladbach will be desperate to keep hold of the Swiss this summer, but it would be a tremendous signing for Everton if they managed to pull it off.
