This one Liverpool youngster simply must be in the first team in 5 years – agreed?

Jurgen Klopp has achieved some great things at Liverpool during the first few years of his reign, but in order to ensure success in the future, he’ll need to maintain his focus on youth production. The German manager has placed a lot of attention on affording opportunities to young players, with individuals like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Dominic Solanke getting a varying amount of minutes over the last year or so.

Whilst that may mean in the short-term that Liverpool could easily spend big and upgrade, the reality is that in the long-term, the Reds could have some of Europe’s best for a fraction of their market value.

Thus, it makes sense for Klopp to continue to prioritise young players, and one player that simply must be in the first team in five years time is Rhian Brewster, Liverpool’s star young forward.

Whilst Liverpool don’t have a shortage of attacking talent, there is always room for improvement, and Brewster could, in a few years, certainly offer something fresh.

A lethal forward with goals at the centre of his mind, Brewster differs significantly from Firmino in the sense that he’s more concerned with scoring than he is with anything else. That’s not to say that Firmino doesn’t value that side of the game, but you’d imagine that he’s just as happy assisting as he is scoring. That’s not the case for Brewster, and he highlighted that during his stunning run at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, a tournament that England won.

Offering electric pace and technical quality, he’s brilliant at dribbling at defences and moving past them, whilst he’s just as comfortable receiving the ball and striking towards goals. That’s all without taking anything away from his link-up play, too, as he’s effective in that sense, as well.

With Daniel Sturridge’s long-term fitness credentials still uncertain, there is space for Brewster in this team, and his decision to sign a long-term deal at Anfield does bode well for his future.

Liverpool fans debate who should start in midfield against Manchester City

For the first time in years, Liverpool finally have strength in depth, particularly in the midfield.

Fabinho and Naby Keita joined the Reds in the summer, bolstering a midfield that also contains Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the latter of whom is expected to miss the season with injury.

Liverpool have played nine games so far in all competitions, and Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that he is not afraid to tinker.

The midfield three have had the most alterations so far, with Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita being switched in recent matches.

The club captain started alongside Milner and Wijnaldum in Saturday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and Keita replaced him as a second-half substitute.

On Wednesday, Liverpool will take on Champions League Group C opponents Napoli and then four days later will go head-to-head with Manchester City at Anfield.

Sunderland would be top of League One if they pulled off Billy Sharp summer coup

[ad_pod ]

Sunderland’s summer transfer target Billy Sharp has been in brilliant form for Sheffield United so far this season, and if Black Cats boss Jack Ross had got his own way in the summer then his team would be top of League One right now.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Sunderland Echo reported following the closure of the summer transfer window that the Wearside outfit had made a move to bring the Blades captain to the Stadium of Light, but the 32-year-old rejected an exit to remain with his boyhood club.

Even though Conor Washington and David McGoldrick arrived at Bramall Lane during the summer to compete with Sharp and Leon Clarke for a spot in the starting XI, the United captain has continued to be the key goalscorer for the Yorkshire club.

The former Leeds United and Southampton hitman scored a brace as Chris Wilder’s side ended Blackburn Rovers’ 25-match unbeaten record at Ewood Park with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday night.

Where would Sunderland be if they signed him?

They would be top of the division, no doubt.

A number of injury issues for summer addition Charlie Wyke mean that Ross, whose comments suggest a 24-year-old is set to play an unlikely criticial role, has largely had to rely on youngster Josh Maja to spearhead his team’s attack so far this term, and the addition of Sharp would have added some much-needed experience and a further goal threat up top – even if the Black Cats are currently averaging two goals per game.

Sunderland are seven points adrift of Portsmouth at the summit – having drawn five of their 11 league fixtures – as things stand however, and the 32-year-old is someone that would have made the difference between picking up a point and three in some of those games.

Liverpool fans discuss run of fixtures after international break

Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge remains on track as they are still unbeaten in the division.

The club head into the second international break of the season third in the standings, level on points with leaders Manchester City and second-placed Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp experienced his toughest list of fixtures so far when he had to prepare his team to take on Chelsea twice followed by Napoli in the Champions League and then reigning Premier League champions Man City.

On Sunday, the clash against Pep Guardiola’s side at Anfield was a shadow of the thrilling encounters last season as the pair played out a goalless draw.

Riyad Mahrez could have won it for City in the latter stages of the game but he sent his penalty high into the stands.

Liverpool will not play again until October 20 due to the international break and they have a kinder run of matches.

The club will take on Huddersfield Town, Cardiff City, Arsenal and Fulham.

Plenty of fans are confident that Klopp’s side will get the results they need to continue pushing forward.

Phil Hay reveals Leeds were very close to signing Harvey Barnes this summer

It’s been a pretty exciting season for the Leeds faithful as they’ve seen their side sore to the top of the table in the early part of the season and play some superb attacking football under Bielsa.

The Argentine has improved the players massively, with the likes of Kemar Roofe and Samu Saiz turning into some of the best players at their positions.

Due to a few injuries, the club’s momentum has stalled and following their loss to Birmingham City last month, Leeds haven’t managed to regain their former form and currently sit third in the table.

It would seem that Bielsa’s high-energy style of football is starting to take its toll on the side as he’s been forced to call on some youth players to fill the first-team squad. According to respected Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay, Leeds were close to signing Leicester City midfielder Harvey Barnes – who’s on loan at West Brom – on a short-term deal over the summer but for the player to decline the move to stay closer to home.

The Breakdown

Barnes opted to move to West Brom and since he’s arrived at the Hawthorns, the midfielder has been in superb form and has so far scored four goals to go with two assists in the Championship.

The creative midfielder has been a key part in West Brom’s rise to second place in the table. He’s got a great eye for a pass and is adept at sliding in a striker on goal or playing a long 40-yard ball into his winger’s feet. There’s no doubt that he would’ve been a great addition to Bielsa’s side.

Thoughts Leeds fans?

Michail Antonio’s biggest strength may be his biggest weakness under Pellegrini

Knowing where to play Michail Antonio has been a perennial problem for any West Ham manager.

The player has already played on the left, the right, and as a striker for The Hammers under manager Manuel Pellegrini so far this season, but has failed to make an impact.

He has been limited to just four starts so far this season, most of which came during the club’s dreadful opening four games in August and September. He was subsequently dropped after that run, only starting when Marko Arnautović was injured.

Since then, the Chilean manager has become much more settled on his team, with the attacking trio of Felipe Anderson, Arnautović and Andriy Yarmolenko appearing to be the attacking favourites at the London Stadium this season.

Antonio (valued at £13.5m on Transfermarkt.co.uk) may struggle to work his way back into the team throughout the season. His versatility will always make him a very valuable bench player, but that will surely not suffice for the 2016/17 Hammer of the Year.

However, Antonio’s greatest strength may well be his greatest weakness under Pellegrini. The former Premier League winning manager has struggled to work out where best to play him, and while trying to work it out, other players have cemented their place in the squad. Whilst Antonio has been juggled from position to position, the ground has grown thinner under his feet.

The season is still young, but the last thing that Antonio will want is for it to go from bad to worse for him.

West Ham fans were delighted with Fabian Balbuena’s performance vs Leicester

[ad_pod ]

A late equaliser meant heartbreak for West Ham on Saturday night as they saw a much-needed three points become one. Having gone down to 10 men in the first half, the Hammers defended valiantly against Leicester City and will feel they deserved the victory for their committed display.

Ultimately, however, a wicked deflection off of Fabian Balbuena redirected a Wilfred Ndidi strike into the back of the net and ensured that the spoils were shared at the King Power Stadium. The deflection off of Balbuena was a particularly cruel twist of fate, as the centre-back had otherwise put in a wonderful performance.

The 27-year-old summer signing put Manuel Pellegrini’s side ahead from close range and was a rock at the back as the outnumbered Irons clung on for so long to their slender advantage.

Despite his unwitting hand in the Foxes’ goal, many West Ham fans were highly appreciative of the Paraguayan’s efforts. After the match, lots of Hammers supporters took to Twitter to sing Balbuena’s praises…

Sanctioning Fabinho’s departure would be a seriously bad move by Jurgen Klopp

According to a recent report from Le Parisien, Fabinho could be set for a move away from Liverpool in the January transfer window. The 25-year-old only made the move to Anfield during the summer from Monaco but has found regular first team football hard to come by under Jurgen Klopp, starting just once so far in the Premier League.

And reports suggest that he could be set for a move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain come the New Year, but given he was only lured to Merseyside back in the summer, and as such appears to be a player Klopp wants at Anfield, sanctioning his departure in January would be a seriously bad and nonsensical move by the Liverpool manager.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, it was clear throughout last season that the Reds needed slightly more in that midfield department to help bridge the gap to Premier League champions Manchester City, which thus prompted Klopp to lure Fabinho and indeed Naby Keita to Anfield.

And while the latter has made some impact following his arrival from RB Leipzig, the same cannot really be said of the former, who has only two Premier League appearances and a handful in other competitions to his name in his first few months on Merseyside.

However, there’s a reason Klopp spent £39 million on bringing him to Liverpool during the summer, and his commanding display in their 4-1 victory over Cardiff City somewhat exemplified exactly what he will bring to this Reds team when he is up to speed in the Premier League.

The Brazilian was combative off the ball in breaking play up and making some very well-timed tackles, yet he also showed a good turn of pace on the ball in making runs forward to help out in attack – it was by far his best performance since his move to Anfield.

Ultimately, it was always going to take time for the 25-year-old to adapt to the rigours and demands of the Premier League, and with the likes of Keita, James Milner, and Georginio Wijnaldum in particular doing well in the middle of the park, he wasn’t needed to be thrown into the deep end.

Klopp has so far managed him expertly and as such he appears to be a player who will have an even greater influence on this Liverpool side between now and the end of the season – spending £39 million on him and letting him go six months later wouldn’t make any sense at all.

Clearly, there is a very good midfielder in Fabinho who looks set to get better and better the more football he plays – and with Liverpool targeting a title challenge and other major honours this term, he’s the sort of player Klopp would want in the middle of the park.

As such, letting him leave for PSG in January would make absolutely no sense, and as such sanctioning the £40.5 million-rated (as per Transfermarkt) ace’s departure would be a seriously bad move by the Reds chief.

Southampton fans think Hojbjerg is the team’s only good player following humiliating loss

After narrowly escaping relegation from the Premier League last season, Southampton fans would have hoped that manager Mark Hughes would keep them away from the bottom three in the 2018-19 campaign.

At the moment it does not look as though that will be the case as the team sit just two points above the drop zone after 11 games.

At this stage of the season, the position in the table is not hugely imperative, but what is worse for the Saints is that they are winless in their last seven top-flight fixtures.

On Sunday afternoon they were humiliated by the current champions Manchester City as they lost 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Danny Ings got on the scoresheet from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark but it did little to prevent City from running riot.

Understandably, the frustration from recent weeks spilled over and plenty of Southampton fans slammed the club on social media.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”326259″ player=”12034″ title=”Liverpool Or Chelsea For The Title Forget it!”]

Only one player seemed to survive the wrath, though, and that was Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who apologised to the supporters following the heavy defeat.

Some fans called on the club to make the midfielder captain.

Tottenham fans praise Sissoko display vs Palace

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Tottenham fans have been reacting to the hard-fought win at Selhurst Park, and they’re full of praise for the much-maligned Moussa Sissoko.

You won’t find many players that get more stick from their own fans than Sissoko at Tottenham, but the all-action midfielder has improved massively in recent weeks.

Mauricio Pochettino is clearly a big fan of the 29 year-old as he continues to deploy him pretty much all over the pitch, and he had perhaps his best Tottenham performance on Saturday evening.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”328975″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Fixture in Focus Manchester City vs Manchester United”]

Juan Foyth’s second half goal gave the visitors all three points, but it’s Sissoko who is taking all the plaudits.

The controversial £30m signing was absolutely everywhere, completing 91 per cent of his passes, including two key passes, as well as completing two dribbles and making two tackles.

He had one particularly incredible run through the Eagles’ defence in the first half, and fans are stunned by his recent form.
