West Brom should enquire about Shinji Okazaki if Leicester recall Harvey Barnes

[ad_pod ]

West Brom should enquire about Shinji Okazaki if Leicester decide to recall Harvey Barnes from his loan spell at the Hawthorns this month, as the forward would offset the impact of the youngster’s departure and help keep their promotion challenge on track.

What’s the word, then?

As a result of Vicente Iborra’s departure, the Foxes are considering recalling 21-year-old Barnes to ensure that their midfield department is not hampered by the Spaniard’s exit, and also with the plan of playing the impressive attacker in the second half of the Premier League season.

Barnes has enjoyed an especially fruitful campaign with the side from the Midlands, scoring nine goals and recording six assists in 26 Championship starts under Darren Moore this season, which has alerted his parent club to the option of recalling him.

Pl>ymaker FC’s Theo Ogden made the 100 mile trip from Bolton to Hull only to see his side demolished 6-0 by the Tigers. Check out his reaction in the video below…

However, if Leicester were to do that, the Baggies would undoubtedly be left in a spot of bother. They have been in excellent form so far this term, currently sitting in fourth place just five points off league leaders Leeds, so should look to replace Barnes in order to keep their season going.

Why would Okazaki be a good signing?

The Japanese international is yet to score this season, but in fairness, he has barely seen any game time under Claude Puel. He was left out of his nation’s Asian Cup squad for the tournament this month, which means he would be available to link up with the Baggies immediately.

Okazaki is an enormously industrial forward who, whilst he may not find the net too often, works incredibly hard for his teammates and harries the opposition into mistakes with intense pressing. The 32-year-old is Japan’s third all-time scorer with 50 goals, and would come with some pedigree, especially in the Championship where he may be more effective – he would also compliment the less industrial Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle.

He is clearly surplus to requirements at the King Power, so West Brom should test the waters if they happen to lose Barnes.

Borja Iglesias hands Everton winter transfer blow

Espanyol’s Borja Iglesias has been strongly linked with a move to Everton in the January transfer window.

However, it appears The Toffees are about to suffer a major blow in their pursuit of the striker.

According to Marca, they claim the 25-year-old has turned down an approach from the Premier League outfit this winter and has made it clear that he wants to end the season with Espanyol.

It is understood Marco Silva’s side were prepared to pay the €28million clause for Iglesias, however, the player has refused to entertain a move.

The striker, who only arrived in the summer from Celta de Vigo, has been in prolific form in La Liga for Espanyol, recording nine goals so far this season.

The Verdict:

The news that Iglesias has turned down a winter move will come as a huge blow to Everton this January.

The Toffees are in need for a striker to help them find regular goals in the Premier League and he may have been the player to help them do that.

Although he has not ruled out leaving Espanyol in the summer, the Goodison Park outfit will need to look elsewhere if they are to try and add firepower in the winter transfer window.

Liverpool will be stretched to the limit after Milner red card

In light of the news last week that Liverpool would be without right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold for the next few weeks, The Reds were thrown into a mini crisis.

The 20-year-old is a mainstay in Jürgen Klopp’s team, and with Nathaniel Clyne unable to be recalled from his loan spell at Bournemouth, the question was to who would slot in as a fullback at Anfield last Saturday against Crystal Palace. James Milner stood up and filled in on the right, however, it was not without its controversy as the 33-year-old picked up a red card in the closing minutes of the game.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”367027″ player=”13308″ title=”Liverpool”]

That now means that Milner misses Liverpool’s next game against Leicester at Anfield, and Klopp again has a job on his hands trying to figure out who occupies the right-back position. One of the main candidates is Fabinho, who deputised as a centre-back in the absence of Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. The Brazilian has some experience of playing as a fullback, but the trouble is that it leaves the central midfield looking severely sparse, as neither Fabinho or Milner would be present.

There is no denying that this is a major setback in Liverpool’s title challenge. Although they sit at the summit of the Premier League table, rivals Man City are haring behind them, and Klopp will know that his side cannot afford any slip-ups in order to secure their maiden Premier League title. Milner’s red card only increases the pressure on Liverpool as they head into a tricky period.

Everton move for Asmir Begovic could get the very best out of Jordan Pickford

According to a recent report from The Sun, Asmir Begovic’s future is far from certain heading into the rest of the January transfer window. The 31-year-old currently plays his football at Premier League outfit Bournemouth and has done so since leaving Chelsea back in 2017, although his recent exclusion from the Cherries first team has plunged his future at the Vitality Stadium into doubt.

And a recent report from The Sun suggests that the goalkeeper could leave Eddie Howe’s team this month, which should be of keen interest to Everton manager Marco Silva given his arrival at Goodison Park could get the very best out of current Toffees shot-stopper Jordan Pickford.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, Bosnia and Herzegovina international Begovic has certainly proven his worth as a Premier League goalkeeper down the years, be it his five-year stint at Stoke City, his short time at Chelsea, or indeed his 18 months on the South Coast with Bournemouth.

With 50 clean sheets and just 210 goals against in 173 appearances for the Potters, as well as 12 clean sheets in 68 appearances for a Bournemouth side that have not been the best defensively since arriving in the Premier League, Begovic has often produced the goods – there’s a reason Chelsea lured him to Stamford Bridge back in the summer of 2015.

Clearly, the 31-year-old is a shot-stopper who could quite easily be playing regular football in the Premier League, and while a move to Everton wouldn’t necessarily be a nod towards that, Silva must look to lure him to Goodison Park in a bid to prompt Pickford to return to his best form.

Ultimately, the England international enjoyed a fine 2018 in impressing between the sticks for Everton last season and then shining for his country at the World Cup in Russia, while he also made a solid start to the current campaign under Silva to suggest that he was a goalkeeper very much heading in the right direction.

However, the 24-year-old has come in for some criticism recently for his efforts for the Merseyside outfit, pretty much ever since he made a glaring error in the derby at Anfield in spilling Virgil van Dijk’s effort into the path of Divock Origi, whose goal denied the Toffees what would have been a deserved point.

And with Everton’s form having taken something of a hit since then, having won just twice in nine Premier League games following that defeat, and Pickford himself showing signs of vulnerabilities, what the club need is a number two shot-stopper to really push the Englishman to produce the goods – but Maarten Stekelenburg simply isn’t that man.

And that is why a move for Begovic makes complete sense this month, as having a hugely accomplished Premier League goalkeeper in the Toffees ranks is sure to get the best out of Pickford, as failure to do so would see him lose his place in Silva’s side, and potentially in the England set-up as well – and after the year he had last time round, that is surely unthinkable.

Yes, one mustn’t forget the stellar 2018 that Pickford had, but recent weeks has been a testing patch that the 24-year-old needs to come through – and while a move for another shot-stopper this month in Begovic, on the surface, wouldn’t appear to be a huge confidence booster, it could be exactly what the Englishman needs to return to his best form.

The Chalkboard: Hasenhuttl should make Armstrong his creative focal point

[ad_pod ]

Southampton have undoubtedly improved since the appointment of Ralph Hasenhuttl. However, the Saints still have plenty of work to do, and points to accrue, if they’re to escape the Premier League’s relegation dogfight all together.

The south coast club host Crystal Palace at St Mary’s Stadium on Wednesday, and Hasenhuttl ought to set up his side to really go at the Eagles.

On the chalkboard

Southampton could take their Premier League winning streak to three consecutive matches with a victory over Roy Hodgson’s outfit. However, they will only do so by being positive, aggressive and creative.

Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…

In recent months, a lack of creativity has been a real problem for Southampton. Although things have improved significantly on that front recently, Southampton still have room to grow.

In Stuart Armstrong, they have a player capable of unpicking a stubborn opposition defence. Now they must make a habit of using his skillset in an effective manner.

Setting up to get the best out of Armstrong

For this midweek clash, Hasenhuttl ought to revert to the setup he deployed his side with for their win over Leicester City. That formation saw Armstrong play a string-pulling role alongside Nathan Redmond, behind a lone striker.

With Redmond’s pace running forward from deep, and the striker playing a target man role ahead, this system gives Armstrong plenty of scope to craft goalscoring opportunities. Such guile and invention will be needed against Palace, and the 26-year-old can be the man to supply it if those around him are set up to bring the best out of him.

Liverpool fans fume at plans for another warm-weather camp

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to something Jurgen Klopp revealed on Friday, as the Reds will jet off for another warm-weather camp after the Bournemouth match.

Liverpool will look to get back on track on Saturday afternoon, and the visit of an inconsistent Bournemouth side offers a brilliant chance to get the goals flowing.

The Cherries are one of the few teams that will try to get the ball down and play football at Anfield, and with David Brooks and Callum Wilson both out injured they should be there for the taking.

Fans are fuming at Klopp though, after the boss revealed the squad will travel to Spain for a short training camp next week, as reported by The Evening Standard’s David Lynch.

The Reds went to Dubai for a warm-weather camp before the draws against Leicester and West Ham, and it’s fair to say they looked out of sync in both performances.

Fans now think the trip to Spain will have the same effect before huge matches against Bayern Munich and Manchester United, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Rangers must sign McBurnie as potential Morelos replacement

Rangers have been in fine form in recent times as they continue to grind out positive results under Steven Gerrard, with the Scottish Premiership title still within their reach.

It’s safe to say that the Bluenoses will need to be at their best if they are to stand any chance of securing any silverware in the current campaign, as Celtic have looked a dominant force in Scotland in recent times.

However, one thing that has been worrying supporters recently is Alfredo Morelos’ future, as Football Scotland recently reported that their sources at Rincon Escoces had confirmed Spanish side Real Betis were interested in signing the South American from Rangers.

So, with the forward on Betis’ wanted list, perhaps it would make sense for Gerrard to eye a potential replacement.

Indeed, the forward has been the standout performer for Rangers in the current campaign as he’s produced an incredible 23 goals and 10 assists in 38 appearances. It would be almost impossible to find a direct replacement for the South American, but there’re certainly a lot of players out there who can at least try to fill the potential void.

One player who could be of interest to Rangers is Swansea City’s Oli McBurnie.

The forward has found the back of the net 16 times in all competitions this season, so it’s clear to see that he knows how to ensure a consistent flow of goals. And, one selling point is the fact that he’s a big Rangers fan and he stated on his personal Instagram account that he will play for Rangers one day, according to the Scottish Sun.

Indeed, one thing that fans will love about the striker is the fact that he once mocked Old Firm rivals Celtic after their loss to AEK Athens with a tweet on his personal Twitter account (as per HITC).

Aside from that, the forward has all the potential to become a future star in Scotland as he’s already proven himself in a difficult English Championship, as well as having previous experience in the Premier League. He’s the same age as Morelos and he’s shown that he can score bags of goals, with similar playing styles being shared between the two, so he’d be an excellent signing to potentially replace the Colombian.

Tottenham Hotspur fans react to Heung-Min Son receiving another award

Heung-Min Son is without a doubt having one glorious season so far in 2019/20.

He has already been named the AFC Asian International Player of the Year for a record third time in his career and now Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed he’s received another accolade for his efforts.

Watch Tottenham Hotspur Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

This time, he’s been proclaimed Korean Player of the Year for a record fourth time – as the club have shared on social media and Twitter – which, of course, prompted many fans to comment and shower him with praise.

They were saying that Son definitely deserved this and were gushing over the speedy forward…

Of course, some of the fans were also quick to notice the lack of any kind of real competition Son faces when fighting for these awards with his fellow Asian and Korean compatriots, stating they were not really surprised and that this was an expected turn of events.

No clues whatsoever: Which seasons do these iconic Spurs images belong to?

But looking strictly at the numbers, however, it’s fairly easy to see that he has been quite extraordinary of late and very much warranted this crown.

Last year, in 2018/19, he netted 20 goals and ten assists in 48 games across all competitions while he’s already at ten goals and nine assists this season and well on course to beat his previous tally if he can keep the momentum up.

In other news, many Spurs fans were thrilled after an update on a transfer target that some even dubbed as “Eriksen replacement”…

Three young talents Mourinho should be looking to pull through at Tottenham Hotspur

We have only gotten a taste of what Jose Mourinho’s era at Tottenham Hotspur might look like moving forward. With two games and two wins under his belt so far, Spurs fans have plenty to look forward to as time goes on.

But what is maybe the most exciting aspect of the Special One’s tenure in London is his apparent willingness to give a proper shot to some of his youth prospects and talents waiting in the pipeline.

After all, he said so himself when he was first appointed and we’re eager to see whether he stays true to it.

Be that as it may, here are three talents Mourinho should definitely be looking to pull through at Spurs if he’s really going to put some trust in the youth:

Oliver Skipp

This one hardly comes as a surprise to anyone but the 19-year-old midfielder is one of those players that are simply begging for promotion.

Despite verging on a permanent senior call-up in the past – seeing how he’s tallied 12 appearances for Pochettino in 2018/19 – this season has only seen Skipp play four games for Tottenham Hotspur and tally a meagre 82 minutes under his belt.

For a young player of his talent, that is simply not enough and if Mourinho is really going to trust in the academy and bring some of the players through, it should definitely be this kid right here.

The fans already adore him and his recent display for the young English side showed just what he’s capable of doing, which prompted the showers of praise by the fans in the first place.

By all means, Skipp looks like someone worth Mourinho’s time.

Kyle Walker-Peters

Walker-Peters is someone who’s already at the senior team but it very much feels like he’s an outcast if anything. Or at least, that’s what he used to be so far.

The 22-year-old right-back has only featured in a total of four games across all competitions, tallying just over 300 minutes in the process. And mostly, he didn’t even make the bench.

[ad_pod ]

He was once in the squad for the Champions League – but wasn’t given the chance to participate – and four times in the Premier League, three of which came at the very beginning of the season, which was the last time he was playing somewhat regular football in the first place.

With Serge Aurirer’s struggles on that right side – with the defender often getting heavy criticism by the media and the pundits – maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Mourinho to show some faith into the kid and make a bold move in the near future.

Troy Parrott

Even though Parrott is the only name on this list with no actual first-team football under his belt in 2019/20, he is arguably the most exciting of the three.

Of course, we’ve seen him called-up once before in an EFL Cup when he tallied 66 minutes under his belt but he’s too big of a talent to stay in the pipeline for too long.

Of course, this is even more emphasised by the fact he is reportedly wanted by the likes of Borussia Dortmund – who are famous for developing young players – and it seems like if Mourinho doesn’t want to invest in him, someone else undoubtedly will.

After all, we’re talking here about a kid who has eight goals and one assist across all competitions in the ongoing campaign and very much looks like he could turn into a superstar.

Pull the trigger, Jose.
