Enquanto a torcida do Atlético-MG volta as atenções para a estreia da equipe na Copa Libertadores, contra o Melgar (PER), no Monumental de Unsa, a quarta-feira trouxe uma novidade para o elenco. Recém-contratado e com contrato já registrado no BID da CBF, o volante Júnior Urso desembarcou à tarde em Belo Horizonte.

O jogador de 26 anos, que estava no Shandong Luneng (CHN), será submetido a avaliações clínicas e exames médicos. A expectativa é de que ele seja apresentado já na sexta-feira.

Depois de encerrar a seca de gols e começar 2016 em boa fase, o atacante Paolo Guerrero aproveitou o bom momento para acompanhar o desfile das escolas de samba do Rio de Janeiro na Sapucaí, na madrugada desta segunda-feira. O camisa 9 do Flamengo, no entanto, demonstrou estar com a cabeça focada não apenas no Rubro-Negro, mas também no clássico contra o Vasco, no próximo domingo, em São Januário.

– Já estou pensando, claro. Vim aqui para conhecer, só vou ficar um pouquinho e daqui a pouco vou embora.Não vou desfilar. Queria mesmo ver o Carnaval do Rio, como é a Sapucaí, as escolas de samba. Ver como é de perto – explicou.

Com três gols em 2016 – dois contra o Atlético-MG, pela Primeira Liga, e um em cima do Boavista, na estreia no Campeonato Carioca – Guerrero vê o Flamengo no caminho certo nesta temporada, evita falar em meta de gols, mas afirma que o objetivo é conquistar títulos. No caso, o primeiro dele pelo clube.

– A preparação está sendo muito boa, o time está melhorando, estamos no caminho certo. Não falo de metas (de gols), a única meta que posso dizer é que queremos disputar títulos e fazer um ano melhor do que foi o passado – disse.

Antes do clássico contra o Vasco, o Flamengo treina na tarde desta segunda-feira, na Gávea, e enfrenta a Portuguesa, quarta-feira, às 21h45, no Raulino de Oliveira, em Volta Redonda. Guerrero é a esperança de gols do Rubro-Negro.

West Bromwich Albion may have to use the transfer window well if they want to stay in the top flight and former Albion forward Kevin Phillips believes that Andy Carroll could be a good option for his former club.

Speaking to West Brom news, Phillips said:

“If you could guarantee he was going to stay fit for the rest of the season, I would certainly consider it because he gives you a different style.

There might be a lot of people who say ‘oh this is going to be route-one football’ but it’s about winning a football match and if that means bringing in a 6ft 5 or 6ft 6 centre-forward and you play a different style of play, we know Andy Carroll on his day can be unplayable.

It’s just whether you can guarantee keeping him fit and for me, it’s a gamble. If you put all your eggs in one basket in getting him in and he gets injured in the first few weeks, you’re back to square one.

Ultimately, it might be a gamble worth having a little nibble at because they need to do something. It hasn’t quite worked for Karlan Grant. I know you’ve got Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu but someone like Andy Carroll – who obviously Big Sam knows – could be a good option. But I’m not sure that if he stays fit, Steve Bruce would let him go with the situation they’re in as well.”

Would this be a good signing for West Brom?

The forward has played 336 times in his career, scoring 79 goals and picking up 50 assists (Transfermarkt). He can be a target man, but this isn’t the best goalscoring record for a striker. The 31-year-old constantly struggles to play regularly and the Baggies should be looking for a forward who is performing well right now.

Carroll is also very injury-prone, so it would seem like a very risky signing, one that would just seem like the club are wasting money on wages, something they cannot afford to do in their situation.

Leicester City’s £30million summer capture of defender Wesley Fofana has reportedly left West Ham United boss David Moyes in agony.

According to Football Insider, Moyes has been blown away by how Fofana has instantly impressed in the Premier League following his move to the King Power Stadium in the recent transfer window.

West Ham had strived to rival the Foxes in efforts to sign Fofana after his former side Saint-Etienne were left furious by Leicester’s tactics, but eventually missed out to Brendan Rodgers’ side after the Ligue 1 outfit accepted a club-record offer worth €38.5m (£30m).

Leicester had seen several bids rejected over the course of the market, though secured a deal for the highly-coveted youngster after ASSE accepted what they deemed to be an “exceptional” sum during the “uncertain economic context caused by the health crisis”, as noted in an official statement.

Rodgers has been reaping the rewards ever since, with Fofana starting four of Leicester’s Premier League fixtures and helping to two clean sheets including a 1-0 win over Arsenal and a 1-0 victory at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Moyes has been left in awe of the 19-year-old’s instant success in England and is greatly frustrated to not be seeing those efforts in east London, having identified the Under 21 international as a candidate to solve his priority need at centre-half.

Sullivan’s disaster

David Sullivan’s inability to match or better Leicester’s £30m offer for Fofana before Saint-Etienne accepted the Foxes’ bid will be a failure West Ham could live to rue for years to come, given how well and how fast the teenage brute has taken to the Premier League.

Fofana has enjoyed a dream start to life at the King Power Stadium where Rodgers has hailed the ASSE product, noting via quotes by the Leicester Mercury: “For a boy of 19 years of age, it’s why we worked so hard to get him in. He’s come into a developing team and he’s going to make mistakes.

“Sometimes he stays on the ball a bit longer, he could get his pass off earlier. And sometimes he gets a fraction too tight, but I like my defenders to be able to defend forward and jump forward. That’s just about experience and knowing when to full press or when to three-quarter press.

“He has so many natural attributes, physically he’s a big boy, he’s great in the air, he’s strong, he’s quick, he’ll never get bullied as a centre-half. His profile is perfect for the British game. What you see is that he can play, he takes the ball, he passes the ball, he can step in with the ball, and he can play short and long passes. It’s great.”

Moyes would undoubtedly have loved to have had the chance of nurturing Fofana’s development and to utilise a player Rodgers believes is “perfect” for the Premier League.

Fofana is also one who has made just one fewer successful tackles (8) than Fabian Balbuena (9), made more interceptions (12) than Aaron Cresswell (8) and Angelo Ogbonna (6) and won more ground duels (13) than Balbuena (10), per SofaScore, despite playing vastly fewer top-flight minutes (360) than each Balbuena (540), Ogbonna (693) and Cresswell (720).

AND in other news, West Ham are eying a perfect £30m swoop to sign a “complete player” who has been backed for greatness.

Lá, os meninos conheceram os estudante locais e ajudaram na construção da Vila dos Sonhos, uma Eco Vila Olímpica solidária que tem como como objetivo melhorar a educação e o lazer das crianças de toda a região.

Os jogadores plantaram árvores e ajudaram na construção de uma eco escola feita de barro. A obra está sendo comandada por um índio pataxó, que mostrou um pouco de sua cultura e ensinou os meninos a importância de se viver em contato com a natureza.

– É uma grande honra receber o time campeão sub-15 do Fluminense aqui em Santana do Deserto. Estamos construindo a Vila dos Sonhos. É uma campanha solidária, feita por voluntários de todo o mundo. As crianças daqui estavam muito ansiosas em poder receber os jogadores tricolores. Eles fizeram cartazes, pintaram os rostos. É algo que ficará para sempre na memória da população local. É emocionante ver os moleques de Xerém construindo uma escola, plantando o futuro de uma cidade – disse Ricardo Calçado, integrante da Onda Solidária.

Depois do almoço, os atletas seguiram para o campo do Santanense, onde foram recebidos por mais de 400 crianças. Lá, os tricolores posaram para fotos, distribuíram autógrafos, brindes e jogaram uma pelada com a criançada.

– Foi muito legal. Os moleques de Xerém não são bons, são excelentes. Estou muito feliz, pois consegui fazer um gol no Iago. Tomara que eles voltem aqui mais vezes. Hoje foi um dia muito bom. Eles são exemplos para a gente e para todas as crianças – disse o jovem estudante Vinícius da Silva, de 13 anos, que tirou fotos com os jogadores e participou da pelada no Santanense.

Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan remain far apart in their valuation of Serge Aurier, reports say. 

Although recent reports suggested AC Milan have stepped up their efforts to sign the 60-cap Ivory Coast international this summer, it is understood that the transfer is still a work in progress.

That’s according to The Evening Standard, as relayed by Ricky Sacks, who claim that Milan are only willing to spend £13m on the defender.

While Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is trying to get rid of Aurier in the summer, Spurs want to sell him for something close to the £23m Daniel Levy paid Paris Saint-Germain three years ago.

Mourinho has wasted no time at all in finding a replacement for the right-back with Turkey full-back Zeki Celik firmly in his sights. However, he faces stiff competition from Premier League rivals Everton as the Toffees have reportedly already entered into negotiations with Lille to sort out a deal for the 14-cap Turkish international.

The Rossoneri remain keen on the Ivory Coast captain but want to drive down a deal. Stefano Pioli’s side are also considering PSV Eindhoven defender Denzel Dumfries as a possible alternative.

Aurier, 27, struggled for consistency last season, but is still the club’s only recognised right-back after Kyle Walker-Peters was sold to Southampton.

As far as Spurs are concerned, if Milan do meet the asking price, they will sell him in the summer. Therein lies the problem, as the Lilywhites will not let him leave for a cut-price deal. Mourinho faces an uphill struggle to find a solution, as it will be difficult to fill the position in such a short space of time before next season begins, and it may be best for the club if Aurier stays for at least another year.

Na noite deste sábado, o meia Alex recusou a proposta feita pelo Botafogo – de empréstimo até o final de ano – e indicou a permanência no Internacional. Isso tudo após o vice-presidente de futebol do Botafogo, Cacá Azeredo, ter confirmado que a negociação estava “90% encaminhada”.

– Já acertamos tudo. Estamos trazendo o jogador. Ele está querendo vir e houve um acordo com o Internacional. O empresário vem aqui na semana que vem para acertas os últimos detalhes. Não está 100%, mas está 90% – havia dito o vice-presidente de futebol do Botafogo, Cacá Azeredo, ao LANCE!, na sexta.

Contudo, a negociação não encaminhou, conforme o próprio empresário do meia, Luis Carline, confirmou. Além disso, o vice-presidente do Inter, Carlos Pellegrinichegou a negar que o colorado tenha recebido qualquer oferta:

– O Alex é um jogador do Internacional, e o Internacional não foi procurado pelo Botafogo – disse em entrevista ao portal Globoesporte.com

O discurso do lado gaúcho se contrapõe ao otimismo pelas bandas de General Severiano. No clube, vive-se a expectativa de um acerto com Alex, como confirmou o presidente Carlos Eduardo Pereira a Rádio Tupi no sábado:

Many Newcastle United fans are fuming at claims from Gordon Taylor after he gave his thoughts to BBC Radio 4 (via ChronicleLive) about the season restarting.

As per the outlet, the PFA chief spoke about Project Restart, as he said that we will have to wait and see on whether the campaign will restart and whether it will run smoothly. Taylor warned: “We as a footballing community do not know what the future holds for the beautiful game, but we do know what propositions and ideas have been put forward.”

The 75-year-old cited some possible changes should the season resume, including more substitutions, games possibly not being a full 45 minutes per half and neutral venues. Taylor added that the PFA are trying to wait and see what the proposals are and have the courtesy to let the managers, coaches and players assimilate all those and come to a considered view.
