Everton fans on West Ham handball

Many Everton fans have been left to fume as some footage emerges of an incident that happened in their 1-0 win at West Ham United in the Premier League.

As shared by Twitter page @EvertonNewsFeed, a header from Josh King appeared to be blocked on the line by the hand of Craig Dawson, which was subsequently not picked up by the referee or VAR officials on the day.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference before their match away at Aston Villa, Carlo Ancelotti said (via @EvertonNewsFeed): “He scored a goal, and I’m surprised nobody knew this. I didn’t see this. I don’t think VAR was in the stadium. Imagine if West Ham scored a goal, it was a huge mistake, it cannot happen with VAR!”

Luckily for the Goodison Park faithful, it did not cost them any points in the end, but given that goal difference could well turn out to be a factor in their hunt for European qualification, Dawson would have been sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity while they would have also been able to increase their goal tally from the penalty spot and potentially score more as the game went on.Everton fans on West Ham footageThese Toffees fumed as the footage was shared on Twitter, with one Blues supporter even going as far as to claim that it was ‘astonishing’:

“You could really tell Carlo was enraged about it today, too right. How on earth have they not seen this? If King waves his arms in the air calling for it it gets given”

LFC fans delighted as Phillips passed fit

Some Liverpool fans have been left delighted after Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Nathaniel Phillips is fit to face Southampton this weekend.

The Reds are back in action on Saturday evening, with Saints making the trip to Anfield in the Premier League.

It has been a fortnight since Jurgen Klopp’s men were last in action, due to last weekend’s scheduled clash with Manchester United being postponed.

[freshpress-quiz id=“355458″]

Liverpool simply have to beat Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side if they are to have any chance of finishing in the top four this season – even then, their chances still look slim.

Someone who hasn’t played since the 0-0 draw with Real Madrid last month is Phillips, who has been missing though injury, albeit being named in the initial team to face United last Sunday.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Klopp confirmed that the 24-year-old is fit, firing and available for selection, with the last week further aiding his recovery.

Celtic are relaxed about Eddie Howe

If this week has told you anything about Celtic, it’s that a new manager is immediately required in the Parkhead dugout.

They have been knocked out of the Scottish Cup and the way in which the Bhoys drew in midweek was rather alarming.

What’s the word?

John Kennedy may well be on Celtic’s radar to become the permanent manager but fortunately for supporters, Dermot Desmond and the Hoops hierarchy have other names in mind.

Roy Keane has come back into contention over the last few days but Eddie Howe still appears to be at the top of their list.

A number of stumbling points have occurred in Celtic’s pursuit of the 43-year-old but according to one journalist, they are refusing to panic and haven’t been deterred by his actions in the last few weeks.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Celtic Huddle podcast, John McGarry said: “I’m told that both parties are fairly relaxed about the situation in terms of negotiations. Nobody’s stormed off in a huff or anything like that. It’s just taking a long time to get these discussions over structure and personnel over the line.”

A big mistake

Howe has been playing Celtic the fool for a considerable period of time now.

The former Bournemouth manager doesn’t want to return to management until the summer while he’s had a number of unpleasing demands in the backroom department.

One source claims that Howe wants to bring the “kitchen sink” with him to Paradise, something the hierarchy have refused.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-howe-lampard-klimala-ajer-gossip” title= “Read the latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

One of his biggest demands is that Richard Hughes is made the club’s new director of football instead of Fergal Harkin.

However, what this week has shown is that Celtic can’t afford to wait until the summer. Truth be told, they shouldn’t be relaxed about the situation at all.

This is a monumental few months for the Hoops and if they are to address their patchy playing squad, they need a permanent manager installed at Parkhead as soon as possible.

If they have to wait for Howe that means they won’t be able to crack on properly with their recruitment until the window is actually open.

It’s a huge mistake from Dermot Desmond to wait on the Englishman and they must move onto other targets.

He and Dominic McKay currently have their work cut out but they simply have to start taking the initiative sooner rather than later. Howe isn’t special enough to play them around.

Tottenham could hold Sarri meeting

According to an update by Italian news outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, as shared by Football Italia, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy could set up a meeting in London with former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri as soon as next week.

Levy could hold Sarri meeting

Spurs have recently been linked with Sarri as a possible candidate to replace under fire boss Jose Mourinho, with recent claims having emerged that the Lilywhites were ‘following’ him (Ciro Venerato).

Now, in a development, La Gazzetta have gone a step further by saying Levy could hold a meeting with the Italian in London imminently and has been targeting him for at least a month.

The former Juventus coach is still ‘under contract’ with the Serie A giants after being sacked almost a year ago – just two weeks after he delivered a Scudetto title.

Spurs, however, are in a ‘crisis’ mode and are giving ‘serious consideration’ to Mourinho’s successor – with this report relaying suggestions he could even be dismissed before the end of the campaign.

Sarri, as a result, has apparently been made aware of this and could meet with Tottenham and Levy next week.

Transfer Tavern take

Chelsea star Jorginho is a huge fan of his former manager judging by how he has described working under the 62-year-old, calling him a ‘extraordinary’ and a ‘magnificent coach’ (Football Italia).

He also guided former club Chelsea to a Europa League triumph, but we believe that while he is a credible dark horse, priority should be given to Julian Nagelsmann if Mourinho is in fact relieved of his duties.

The Daily Mail recently claimed that those within Spurs view him as the ‘perfect’ candidate, and it’s hard to disagree with that sentiment given how he has managed to challenge Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga dominance this season with RB Leipzig.

Celtic: Musonda endures injury hell after exit

Charly Musonda was such a valuable signing to Celtic that the Bhoys tried to bring him to Parkhead twice.

In the summer of 2017, he nearly joined the Hoops on loan before his parent club decided to keep him at the club instead.

He became part of Chelsea’s Premier League squad and played nine times in all competitions for the Blues that term. In the process, he picked up an assist in Europe and also in the top-flight.

Though, after a lack of first-team opportunities Celtic ultimately got their man in January 2018.

After penning temporary terms, Musonda said: “I feel really good. Massive club, really looking forward to it. I’m very lucky to be here and I’m very happy to be here. It’s going to be unreal to play at Celtic Park. Hopefully I can do well for the team.”

Unfortunately, despite Brendan Rodgers’ desire to see him thrive, it was an unsuccessful stint in Glasgow for the Belgian.

Upon signing for an initial 18 months, the former Celtic boss cited Musonda’s “wonderful ability.”

Rodgers added: “I’ve known him for a few years. A big thank you must go to Chelsea. He’s a shining light in their academy.”

Musonda would eventually play just eight times for the Bhoys, being recalled in May after Chelsea lost their patience. He failed to score during his time in Scotland and it was unsurprising they recalled him; he wasn’t even in the squad during the end of his stay.

Since he departed Paradise, his career has fallen off the wagon in one of the worst ways possible.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-howe-favre-edouard-desmond” title= “Read the latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

The attacking midfielder headed to Vitesse in the Netherlands but after making four appearances early in the 2018/19 season on loan, he’s not been seen on the field of play since.

Musonda has been through his very own version of hell and he’s not in the clear yet either. He picked a cruciate ligament injury in his knee and hasn’t played for the best part of 19 months.

Speaking in December he said: “It’s been four years since I played back to back professional games, three years since I last played for my club, two of those last four years, I’ve been injured with the post cruciate ligament of my knee.”

The midfielder continued: “Doctors told me going through surgery after being out for so long would be the end, an impossible mountain to climb, were the exact words. This is my story and how I keep training and staying ready, despite the odds, one day I’ll be back.”

Now 24, Musonda has returned to light training with Chelsea and has hired his own personal fitness and conditioning strength. He is still yet to appear for the Blues since resuming light ball work in what has been a nightmare two years.

Is the end in sight for the midfielder? Time will tell. Described as a “big talent” by Rodgers, the £42k-per-week earner once had the world at his feet.

Another prodigy off the Chelsea production line, his lack of opportunities has been through complete misfortune, rather than some of the other reasons academy graduates have been handed throughout the years.

Just as his career was beginning to take off, it was effectively ripped away from him. Musonda undoubtedly deserves a second chance.

– Meu presente é o São Paulo, vou dar sempre o melhor, ajudar, seja quem for na frente.

Moyes eyeing Meslier for West Ham

According to a report by Football Insider, West Ham United and David Moyes have set their sights on Leeds United ‘sensation’ Illan Meslier – coming as the club have held talks over extending Lukasz Fabianski’s contract but with no agreement in place yet.

The Irons are confident they can keep their number one for another season regardless, especially considering they have a one-year option in his current deal according to Football Insider, but that hasn’t stopped them looking at potential replacements.

Moyes eyeing Meslier for West Ham

Meslier, who has been a Leeds regular under Marcelo Bielsa this season, starting 25 of their 26 Premier League matches, apparently fits the bill as Moyes eyes potential new additions in the goalkeeping department.

He signed for the Whites on a permanent deal just last summer, converting his loan spell from Lorient into a permanent deal, but West Ham and Moyes are now keeping tabs ahead of the next transfer window.

Transfer Tavern take

Described as ‘incredible’ by former Leeds and Premier League striker Jermaine Beckford (Doing A Leeds podcast via Leeds United news), he is currently valued at around £10.8 million by Transfermarkt – with no mooted price tag mentioned by this Football Insider report.

Leeds may want much more for their number one shot stopper given his age, but it remains to be seen if more news emerges regarding talks or an asking price.

In other news: West Ham are also keeping tabs on this potentially ‘perfect signing’, find out more here.

Liverpool not interested in Aissa Mandi

Liverpool are not in the race to sign Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi this summer, according to reports in Spain.

Mandi out

The 29-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Anfield last summer after the departure of Dejan Lovren, who moved to Zenit St Petersburg for £10.9m.

From 19 appearances in La Liga this season, Mandi has scored three times and averaged just 0.8 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game (WhoScored), with Betis sitting sixth in the table.

However, according to Estadio Deportivo, both Liverpool and the representatives of the Algeria international have denied any interest in a summer move.

Mandi, who is valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, is due to be released by Béticos Heliopolitano at the end of the season with his contract due to expire in the summer.

Liverpool currently have a horrendous injury crisis on their hands, with their three main centre-backs all currently out with season-ending injuries.

Transfer Tavern Verdict

It doesn’t come as a surprise to us that the Reds have halted their pursuit of Mandi.

Analysing where the Algerian centre-half is in his career, he would not be a long-term solution to a significant issue that the Merseysiders currently have on their hands and would likely just be a backup option.

However, with Liverpool expected to record a significant revenue loss due to the global pandemic, the question remains as to whether they are lowering their standards to accommodate the current economic climate.

Celtic suffer injury blow ahead of Dundee

Just if you thought things couldn’t get any worse for Celtic, they’ve now been rocked with more bad news.

It has been an unforgiving season for the Bhoys, one where they’re on the verge of losing their grasp on the Premiership title.

The crown is now all but Rangers’ and they could win in it in the Old Firm derby next weekend. It would be a horrific way for the Hoops to surrender their dominance but it would be typical of their arduous year.

One person they’ll hope of having fit in time for that encounter is Greg Taylor.

The left-back won’t be fit enough to partake this Sunday, however. He limped off after just nine minutes of being on the field during Neil Lennon’s final game in charge over Ross County.

Taylor missed last weekend’s win over Aberdeen and, in a fresh blow for the Bhoys, he is still missing.

Speaking ahead of the match with Dundee, Kennedy said: “Greg’s still injured. Obviously, he picked up a thigh injury against Ross County.

“He’s not trained this week, so we’ll still be missing him.”

With Uruguay international Diego Laxalt primed and ready to deputise on the left-hand side of defence, it doesn’t look like the greatest of setbacks on paper.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-celtic-manager-hunt-stories-wagner-marsch-martinez-lennon-news” title=”The last stories on Celtic’s hunt for a new manager!”]

That being said, Taylor has been a terrific influence over the last few months, proving to be one of a few reliable players in a tortuous campaign at Parkhead.

The Celtic defender picked up a crucial assist in the 2-1 win over St Johnstone, while he’s been improving all the time in other areas of his play.

In his last seven starts for the Hoops prior the Ross County game, he has won 16 tackles at a rate of 2.2 per game. In Taylor’s last ten outings before then, he has provided 21 key passes at a rate of 2.1 per match.

Those numbers are eye-catching and it only goes to prove how big a miss he could be on Sunday.

When they face Dundee at lunchtime, Kennedy will do so without one of the club’s most consistent players in 2021.

That is a big blow to everyone at Celtic, especially the interim manager.

AND in other news, Forget Christie: Kennedy must axe “soul-destroying” Celtic flop who made just 5 passes…
