What a waste: Spurs fans slam Bale after agent comments

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Spurs fans have been reacting to some comments from Gareth Bale’s agent, who ruled out a loan move for the Welsh winger.

Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has effectively ruled out a move to Tottenham or Manchester United this summer, per Sky Sports.

Barnett told Sky Sports: “Obviously Gareth’s situation at Real hasn’t improved. I think Mr Zidane has decided he can probably do without him, so we have to wait and see.

“There’s more chance of me winning at Ascot than him going out on loan. It’s not going to happen,” he said. “I don’t think he wants to go out on loan. He’s got a lovely life and home in Spain.

“I think it would take something exceptional for him to leave and loans are not on the menu.”

It seems extremely unlikely that Spurs or United would have the funds to pry Bale away from Madrid on a permanent basis, as he has three years left on his current deal and would cost a fortune.

As reported by Football.London, the Welsh international is believed to earn more than £600,000-a-week before tax, and fans are lashing out at his greed after his agent’s comments.

It is quite alarming that the 29 year-old seems content to just warm the bench and pick up his pay packet, as he started just 21 La Liga games last season and scored only eight times, per Whoscored.

Have a look at some of the Twitter reactions down below, where Spurs fans have some very harsh truths for their former hero…

Celtic fans in disbelief as David Turnbull deal again in doubt

[ad_pod ]

Celtic’s move for Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull again appears to be in doubt after an issue was discovered during the player’s recent medical with the club.

As reported by STV, the Hoops had a £3m offer for the player accepted by Motherwell and the 19-year-old subsequently chose to join the Scottish champions over Premier League new boys Norwich City.

How can Celtic improve next season? A Hoops fan tells us how in the video below…

The outlet say now though that Celtic are again in discussions with the Fir Park outfit after discovering an issue that could sink the deal entirely.

It’s just the latest dramatic twist in a transfer saga that has dominated Celtic’s pre-season preparations.

The club are currently in Austria getting ready for UEFA Champions League qualifiers but have not yet made a summer signing, despite a number of first-team squad members leaving at the end of last season.

Celtic fans are eager to see players arrive and couldn’t quite believe the latest twist to the Turnbull deal, taking to Twitter over the last 24 hours to share their thoughts…

Liverpool Transfer Roundup: New Ojo deal, loan for youngster, no move for Max Kruse

[ad_pod ]

With Liverpool in a great position following a successful past season, there is no need for a host of incomings this summer. Most of the business at Anfield is expected to be in regards to players already on Merseyside, whether it be contract negotiations or transfer departures. Here’s a look at the latest news regarding the Reds…

Ojo earns new deal

One of those players who will be offered a new deal is Sheyi Ojo, according to Football Insider. Ojo spent last year on loan at French side Reims and, despite only scoring one goal in 19 games from the wing, Liverpool have decided to offer him a five-year extension to his current deal.

Another loan move for Kane

According to Goal.com, youngster Herbie Kane will spend another season out on loan next year. The 20-year-old midfielder impressed at Doncaster Rovers in League One, and now Brentford, Millwall and Hibernian are all interested in securing his services on a short-term basis.

Origi and Brewster instead of Kruse

Despite previous interest, the Reds are no longer in the hunt for Werder Bremen midfielder Max Kruse according to the Liverpool Echo. The former German international scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions for the Bundesliga side last season, but Jurgen Klopp has instead decided to place his trust in Champions League hero Divock Origi and youth academy graduate Rhian Brewster.

Liverpool: Andy Robertson should be fearful if Jurgen Klopp signs Lloyd Kelly

For all the good Jurgen Klopp has done in turning Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold into two of the best fullbacks in Europe, the German manager has left himself short in terms of backup.

Look past Liverpool’s two starting fullbacks and you will find a club deprived of backup options if one of them gets injured, but this summer is likely to change with Alberto Moreno and Nathaniel Clyne both expected to leave, meaning Klopp can start looking at new options as well as looking towards the future, and the Reds boss is likely to take action.

According to Football Insider earlier this month, Liverpool are in contention with Southampton for the signing of Bristol City defender Lloyd Kelly, who has been one of the breakout stars in the Championship and has been targeted by the Reds before in the past.

The left-back has been a sensation for the play-off hopefuls this season, making 34 appearances for the club and establishing himself as one of the brightest prospects in the England football pyramid and a target for many Premier League teams, and if Liverpool are able to acquire the defender, it could be a problem in the long-term for Robertson.

The Scottish international no doubt has the left-back position on lock for the next few seasons, but with niggling injuries affecting the defender this campaign, Kelly could be given a chance to shine in the first-team when offered the chance by Klopp.

Competition can be healthy for specific positions in football, and if Kelly is to join Liverpool, Robertson should be playing with extra urgency to impress Klopp that he is the man to take the starting position in the team.

Liverpool fans, would Kelly be a good signing? Let us know!

Man United fans starting to change their tune on Solskjaer after Barcelona loss

[ad_pod ]

When Manchester United announced on March 28 that they had appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a permanent basis following a successful period in caretaker charge, the following Red Devils fans were clearly delighted.

It would be fair to say things haven’t really gone to plan for the Norwegian in just under three weeks since then though, with their 3-0 Champions League quarter-final second leg defeat against Barcelona on Tuesday night their third loss in their previous four matches in all competitions.

It was also their fourth successive defeat away from home – the first time that has happened since Solskjaer was playing for them in 1999 – as the cracks begin to appear.

Selecting a clearly out-of-sorts Ashley Young backfired as his mistake led to Lionel Messi’s opener for the La Liga leaders, while previously in-form players such as Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford are now struggling.

Things need to turn around quickly if they are to secure qualification for Europe’s elite club competition next season, as they currently lie two points outside of the top four in the Premier League standings.

Man United supporters on Twitter were certainly beginning to question their manager via social media during their most recent defeat, to suggest some are already changing their tune and doubting the decision to keep the 46-year-old on.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

The Verdict: Would Lowe make up for loss of goals at West Brom if Gayle doesn’t sign?

[ad_pod ]

West Brom are reportedly keen on adding Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe to their ranks, per Football League World.

According to the report, scouts have been to watch him on regular occasions. It’s easy to see why considering the form the Pompey man has been in this season. He’s had a major influence on the promotion title-chasing side and they will be eager to hold onto one of their star men.

However, West Brom could lose one of their star men too when Dwight Gayle’s loan deal runs out. As a result, the club may look towards someone like Lowe to fill the void left behind by the Newcastle loanee.

With this in mind, Football FanCast writers gave their verdicts on whether he’d be able to make up for the goals Gayle may take with him if he doesn’t sign permanently. Here’s what they said.

Luke Glanville

“His tally of goals and assists in League One this season is impressive, proving Jamal Lowe to be someone who can both create and score high volumes of goals. Therefore, he would be a very shrewd signing for West Brom. However, in terms of replacing Dwight Gayle and his haul of league strikes this campaign, that would be tricky.

“Firstly, he’d have to adapt to playing as a striker and not a winger and secondly, have to do it in a league of much higher quality, possibly the Premier League. So for me, should the Baggies sign Lowe? Yes absolutely, but alongside a Gayle replacement if he’s on his way out of the Hawthorns.”

Billy Meyers

“It remains to be seen whether or not Jamal Lowe can make the step up from League One into the Championship. Given his excellent form this season, you would back him to do well in the second-tier, but in terms of replacing the impact of a man who has become somewhat of a Championship marksman over the years, Lowe may not be able to get near Dwight Gayle’s goal tally anytime soon.”

James Beavis

“From what I have seen of Lowe this season I have been impressed, and for me, he would be a better option than Gayle next season. Should West Brom look to play three attackers in the 2019/20 campaign, then the 24-year-old has the ability to play on the wing and as a centre-forward. Gayle has often struggled to make an impact when he has featured out wide, and Lowe would gazump him in that respect. Replicating his goal record in the Championship would be a challenge, but with the right service he can do it.”

Put faith in the academy? West Brom fans react as supporters’ club chairman speaks

[ad_pod ]

West Brom fans have been growing continually frustrated with their managerial situation and now the supporters’ club chairman John Homer has had his say on matters surrounding the club.

Homer spoke about the club’s youth academy, declaring that the players needed to step up and that whoever became the next manager had to take advantage of some of the promising youngsters coming through.

It became a hot topic of debate on Twitter with fans sharing a variety of opinions on the comments. One fan asked whether there was any other option because of a lack of spending, whilst another had concerns that they’d bring players through only for them then to leave.

Rekeem Harper was also debated with two supporters anxious over the 19-year-old’s contract situation.

The feeling in the air at the Hawthorns has been one of exasperation that the club appeared to have no plan in place once Darren Moore was sacked. Talks have since been held with Slavisa Jokanovic but nothing materialised.

Current caretaker manager James Shan spent four years as the U23s coach with the club so if anyone was to prioritise youth it would be him. Whether he gets given the job on a permanent basis is another matter though.

Here’s how Baggies fans have been discussing Homer’s remarks.

Tottenham fans react to Pochettino ban reasoning

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino served the first game of his two-match ban against Southampton at the weekend.

The Spurs boss watched on from the stands as his side lost 2-1 to the relegation-threatened Saints.

The FA handed Pochettino the ban, along with a £10,000 fine, after an altercation with referee Mike Dean following the club’s 2-1 loss to Burnley.

The Argentine and the official were involved in a heated confrontation at Turf Moor, with Pochettino seemingly reacting to something said by Dean.

The FA have now revealed the official reasons, via Daily Mail, for Pochettino’s ban, with Dean alleging in his report of the game that the Spurs boss said “you know what you are” repeatedly to him on the pitch, before saying it again in the tunnel.

However, supporters are not happy with the reasoning, insisting that they need to know what was said by Dean as well, with coaches Jesus Perez and Toni Jimenez also reacting adversely towards the man in the middle.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

Five reasons why Jesus Perez will thrive in Mauricio Pochettino’s temporary absence

[ad_pod ]

Jesus Perez is set to become Tottenham Hotspur manager.

It is, of course, only a temporary measure, with Mauricio Pochettino suspended for the next two games against Southampton and Liverpool, after an altercation with referee Mike Dean following the 2-1 defeat to Burnley – as reported by London Evening Standard.

However, supporters need not worry. Perez – who will assume the Tottenham gaffer’s role in the dugout – is a key Pochettino lieutenant and will be able to bring the best out of an XI that already respects him.

Here are five reasons why Spurs fans should rest easy…

Perez knows Pochettino’s plans inside out

Perez and Pochettino go back a long way. They first worked together at Espanyol, in 2010, with Perez initially coming in as a technical analyst. He earned his way into the manager’s good books and became technical first-team coach before following the Argentine to Southampton and then to Spurs.

The pair are sure to be in contact during the games against the Saints and the Reds, but they may as well not be; Perez has an inherent knowledge of Pochettino’s gameplans and tactics.

A cool head

Perez is rarely seen without a notepad on the sideline and he has the cooler head than Pochettino. While he was involved in the altercation with Dean, he also looked to move Pochettino away, and he is more reserved than the boss on the sidelines.

That is not to say he is without passion; he has a ferocious stare and has been seen getting caught up in the celebrations when Spurs score.

But he is more reserved and will assess the game from a distance, something that may benefit Spurs with Pochettino in the stands.

Genuine tactical insight

Perez is Pochettino’s point man when it comes to assessing the dangers of the opposition.

He shows the players videos and analysis both before games and during them, regularly showing them clips during half-time, per Football.London.

No use with unauthorized audio, video, data, fixture lists, club/league logos or “live” services. Online in-match use limited to 75 images, no video emulation. Perez has been in his job with Pochettino for nearly a decade and knows exactly what the Spurs boss will be looking for.

He can then transmit that to the players, and raise their games; against Southampton and Liverpool, there should be very little drop-off from the norm.

A superb motivator

Ryan Mason, a player given his big break at Spurs by Pochettino after numerous loan spells, still hears Perez’s voice in his head, having spent two years working under the pair at White Hart Lane.

Speaking to ESPN in 2018, he said: “I still hear Jesus’ voice now.

“When I’m training or playing and my body is telling me, ‘You’re knackered’, I still hear his voice saying, ‘You’re a strong boy, Mase!’ That stuck. It’s always there. He’s amazing at his job, he really is.”

Mason added that Perez is meticulous about absolutely everything, and that little goes on at Spurs that he isn’t aware of.

He said: “He knew everything! I’m not a clubber, I don’t go out drinking, so I felt pretty safe.

“But I’m sure if a couple of the lads fancied a night out and the odd drink, Jesus would know about it. He always knows.”

Familial Ties

Perez and Pochettino live in each other’s pockets.

The pair can, per the aforementioned reports, spend up to 12 hours a day together at Spurs’ training ground.

Not only that, they live just a minute apart, with their families having become close, and regularly drive to work together.

If Perez cannot oversee two victories, you can bet your bottom dollar Pochettino will remind him about it every day on their commute!
