Wayne Rooney’s Derby County head into their penultimate fixture of the Championship season this Saturday knowing that a win would represent a massive step in securing their survival in the division.

Following their 2-1 home loss against Birmingham City last week, the possibility of the Rams dropping down to League One next season remains a possibility, with Rooney’s side sitting in 21st place in the table, just four points above both Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday, with the Millers having the bonus of a game in hand.

However, a win against Swansea City this Saturday would see Derby take a huge step in securing their mathematical safety – potentially even clinching it today if the two teams immediately beneath them both lose.

So, will Rooney make any changes to the XI which started against Birmingham? Here’s our predicted XI, along with the latest team and injury news…

With Rooney being without long-term absentees of Lee Gregory, Teden Mengi, Jack Stretton, Curtis Davies and Krystian Bielik, in addition to the recent casualties of Andre Wisdom and Beni Baningime, there is not much room for manoeuvre ahead of the Swansea clash.

However, we still expect that the Rams boss will make two changes from the line-up which started against Birmingham last week.

Firstly, David Marshall could be set to return following Kelle Roos’ poor performance against the Blues, while Lee Buchanan could also find himself dropped to the bench for Patrick Roberts in order to provide the Rams with greater attacking impetus down the left-hand side of the pitch. The 24-year-old Manchester City loanee averages more shots, key passes and dribbles per game than his younger team-mate.

Otherwise, the team remains unchanged, meaning that Martyn Waghorn and Colin Kazim-Richards both look set to start in attack as Derby go in search of a potentially season-saving victory.

This summer could be one where Celtic look to take advantage of the Scottish market.

It was something the Bhoys utilised well last summer when they welcomed David Turnbull to Parkhead.

He’s has enjoyed a brilliant campaign and has been recognised as one of the best young players in the division throughout 2020/21.

Turnbull’s appearance among the nominees for the Young Player of the Season award is well deserved.

If anyone has been a shining light from a torrid season at Paradise it’s him. The 21-year-old has netted nine times and also has seven assists to his name.

However, it was baffling that there was no place for Ali McCann on the shortlist. The Northern Ireland midfielder has had a breakthrough season and has been watched by Celtic scouts numerous times throughout the course of the campaign.

Currently playing for St Johnstone, it wouldn’t be a great surprise if we saw him at one of the biggest teams in the next few seasons.

After all, he has proven to be a reliable and consistent performer under Callum Davidson.

Bye-bye McGregor

If Celtic decide to act on their interest in McCann then he’d act as a perfect replacement for Callum McGregor.

The Scotland international has widely been tipped to take over the captaincy when Scott Brown departs but it’s hard to argue whether his performances actually merit that.

Like many at Paradise this season, McGregor hasn’t enjoyed the best of times and if anything summed that up it would be his red card against Rangers last weekend.

He showed a complete lack of discipline as he slid in on Glen Kamara despite already being on a yellow card and was consequently shown his marching orders.

McGregor proved in this instance that he cannot be relied upon to set the tone in the middle of Celtic’s side.

McCann, however, has shown he can dictate and organise things well for St Johnstone.

Described as “excellent” by Davidson, he has all the tools to be a huge success at Celtic. He is versatile and has played at wing-back this term, building on the qualities he’s shown as a midfield player.

The 21-year-old is a solid ball carrier but his defensive attributes are first-class. McCann has won a mighty 2.7 tackles per game in the Premiership this season, a number that usurps every single player at Celtic.

For context, McGregor has recorded just 0.9 tackles per match while Scott Brown has registered 1.3.

He would be a clear upgrade and would offer a protective layer in front of the defence, especially with his exceptional reading of the play; he has made 1.5 interceptions per match.

The midfielder is capable in offensive situations too, scoring the winning penalty to knock Rangers out of the Scottish Cup.

McCann has been impressive for a while now and speaking last term, his former teammate Jason Holt only have fine praise: “He got his place in the team at the start of the season, and to keep it, it is testament to himself and the performances he has been putting in. He has been undroppable.

“He’s definitely got the potential to go on to bigger things. He has a great head on his shoulders and he is very down to earth.”

Celtic could undoubtedly benefit from someone with his qualities; his potential is enormous.

Steven Gerrard was boosted by the news at Rangers yesterday that Leon Balogun has committed to a new one-year deal at the club, following in the footsteps of Steven Davis and Allan McGregor at Ibrox.

The Nigerian international has impressed in Gerrard’s side since joining from Wigan Athletic on a free transfer last summer, and given that his old deal was set to expire at the end of the season, it always seemed likely that he would be rewarded with an extension.

In total, the defender has made 28 appearances for the Light Blues, in which he has contributed three assists, although he has been unable to add to the 16 goals he has scored in his senior career so far.

His performances in the Premiership this season have been excellent, as he has averaged a solid 7.06 WhoScored rating across his 19 appearances in the top flight, which ranks him as the Gers’ ninth-best performer in the league so far this term.

Although he is arguably third-choice centre-back behind Connor Goldson and Filip Helander, he has shown that he is more than capable of stepping in when required.

The 32-year-old has struggled on occasion when playing as a right-back, but there’s no doubt that Gerrard will appreciate his versatility to play in that position, especially considering that James Tavernier has spent the last two months on the sidelines.

Should Helander depart in the summer, with Leicester and Aston Villa reportedly interested in the Swedish international, then Gerrard is safe in the knowledge that Balogun can step up as his replacement next season.

Earlier in the season, former Rangers man Barry Fergurson was full of praise for Balogun, saying: “Unbelievable, that’s why he’s played, did you see his recovery? So pacy, what a find he’s been.”

It’s clear that Balogun has impressed since his move from Wigan last year and Gerrard will surely be buzzing that the Nigerian international will remain at Ibrox next season.

Premier League football returns this weekend and Liverpool will be aiming to continue their recent mini-revival as they travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

Despite a disastrous defence of their title, the Reds have won their last two games in all competitions, most recently managing to overcome Wolverhampton Wanderers before the international break.

How many changes could Jurgen Klopp be tempted to make for the clash against the Gunners? Let’s take a look.

There could be a couple of changes from the German for the trip to north London following the win at Molineux.

The former Borussia Dortmund schemer is somewhat forced into selecting almost the same defensive line-up due to injuries, so Alisson Becker should be shielded by Andrew Robertson, Ozan Kabak and Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, he could plump for the greater experience of Fabinho as opposed to Nathaniel Phillips at centre-back.

This will mean that there is a distinct gap in midfield alongside Georginio Wijnaldum. The somewhat defensive-minded Naby Keita could be drafted in to fill the void left by Fabinho’s shift in position.

Klopp does have a few headaches further forwards. Roberto Firmino is back in contention having missed the last three Premier League games and is likely to be included from the start. He will be looking to add to the seven goals he has scored this campaign.

However, these leaves a question over Diogo Jota. The Portuguese scored the winner against Wolves last time out and also netted three times over the international break. This could well tempt Klopp to start with a front two, with Sadio Mane and Mo Salah preferred in wide positions.

This would therefore see Thiago Alcantara come out of the starting line-up altogether. Having been substituted in each of his last six Premier League games, the 41-cap midfielder looks to be the most disposable at the current time.

LANCE!: Como será sua participação no dia a dia do time sem poder jogar?
Fernando Prass: É difícil falar, eu não planejo nada. Quem está fora vai vivendo o clube dia a dia. Vai do feeling, da sensibilidade, de ver se precisa que uma pessoa fora do campo ajude em alguma coisa. Se a gente fora de campo conseguir fazer alguma coisa que possa transportar algo positivo para dentro de campo a gente faz. Mas é mais no dia a dia que a gente vê isso mesmo. Sempre que eu puder, me sentir à vontade, achar legal, óbvio que vou estar junto. Se eu tiver condição de ir a todos os jogos, acompanhar de perto, eu vou.

Ao mesmo tempo em que fez questão de estar junto com os companheiros de Palmeiras, você preferiu se afastar do dia a dia da Seleção Brasileira após ser cortado. Por que essa decisão?
Primeiro porque minha convivência aqui é muito maior, meus laços de amizade, de grupo, são muito mais fortes. Eu estava voltando para casa, para a minha casa, que é o Palmeiras, e para a minha família. Eu tinha que resolver minhas situações médicas, de cirurgia, e acho que minha presença aqui no Palmeiras é muito mais benéfica. Na Seleção acho que não seria benéfico. O ambiente, e isso eu senti no vestiário no dia do corte, é de uma carga muito pesada emocionalmente. Eles já tinham uma pressão enorme de jogar uma Olimpíada no Brasil, vindo do que aconteceu na Copa do Mundo, o Brasil não tinha o ouro, era uma pressão muito grande mentalmente. De repente, se eu estivesse lá, toda hora que entrasse no vestiário eu ia relembrar a situação. Eles podiam ficar pensando: “Pô, e se fosse eu? Pode acontecer comigo”. Acho que eu não levaria uma energia muito boa. No Palmeiras é diferente. Eu conheço o grupo e acho que minha presença seria boa.

Como estão sendo esses primeiros dias de fisioterapia?
É tudo muito devagar agora, foram três semanas praticamente sem nada, só de repouso. Comecei a fisioterapia, mas nesse primeiro estágio ainda é tudo muito leve, porque tem que esperar a consolidação da fratura. Agora é de duas em duas semanas voltar no médico para reavaliar.

Quando você viu que a final olímpica iria para os pênaltis, chegou a pensar que o cenário era perfeito para você ser decisivo?
Passa muita coisa na cabeça. Tu via os caras treinando e se imaginava lá, via os caras fazendo cadastro na Olimpíada e se via lá, nos jogos nem se fala. Na final também, óbvio. Não tem como não pensar, ainda mais com a Copa do Brasil sendo tão próxima. Mas se eu estivesse lá quem garante também que nós teríamos chegado à final, que teria ido para os pênaltis? Poderia ter vencido mais fácil ou ter perdido. A cabeça trabalha, sim, mas a gente tem que tentar domá-la para não entrar em grandes frustrações.

Você já superou a tristeza pelo que aconteceu?
É aquela coisa de tentar trabalhar a cabeça, porque vêm pensamentos ruins e bons. A luta contra isso é constante. Claro que ainda vem na memória. A festa do Palmeiras teve as homenagens, aí volta de novo, mas eu tento sempre ver o lado positivo. Eu senti o gostinho e gostei de experimentar esse negócio de Seleção. Tento levar pelo lado positivo para voltar ano que vem e conseguir. Claro que é difícil, até pela idade, mas a olímpica era até mais difícil. Então eu uso mais como motivação.

Nos últimos dias, você tem sido abordado diversas vezes para falar dessa frustração. Vai chegar uma hora em que você vai pedir para “trocar o disco”?
Ah, cara, todo mundo fala: “Tu faz parte disso, tu foi campeão também”. Sinceramente, eu não me considero campeão olímpico. Se tivesse jogado dez minutos de um jogo tudo bem, mas eu participei da preparação e quem ganhou foi aquele grupo de 18. Tive uma frustração, não posso fugir disso, tenho que encarar. Mesmo que um dia eu volte a vestir a camisa da Seleção, essa frustração eu vou ter na minha vida, mas eu não posso ficar me lamentando e remoendo.

Tottenham have been handed a fitness boost ahead of their clash with Fulham in the Premier League on Thursday.

Besides Giovani Lo Celso, Jose Mourinho has a fully fit squad to choose from with the boss confirming this week that despite the pile-up of games, Gareth Bale would be fit to play a part this week.

When asked if he was able to feature, Mourinho told reporters in his pre-match press conference: “I believe so. Start the game, being on the bench, I don’t know.”

“We have to decide. He’s such an experienced guy that of course his opinion is very important. But good reaction, good recovery sessions. He will be involved. I repeat, bench or starting, but he will be there.”

This should be music to the ears of Spurs supporters and indeed the manager too.

Bale hasn’t had an easy start to his second spell in north London. He’s only started three Premier League games for instance.

However, he has shown over the last few weeks that he is slowly rediscovering his best form. Because of that, news that his fitness is up to scratch as they prepare to welcome Fulham is game-changing.

Bale scored a sumptuous strike during the 4-0 win over Burnley last time out. It was shades of the old Welshman as he cut inside and then curled a delightful effort past the goalkeeper. That wasn’t his only involvement in the match, however, as he netted twice and also claimed an assist.

In his last four outings, the 31-year-old has scored four goals and also registered three assists for his teammates. The forward is beginning to play a lot more football now and his involvement will be key to determining the outcome this evening.

Mourinho should be delightful that he can finally rely on the Welshman to play a consistent part in the starting XI. His form of late has been utterly devastating.

That and his improved fitness is surely a major boost to Tottenham’s chances of pushing for a place in the Champions League.

O Flamengo tem o interesse de mandar jogos em Brasília no Campeonato Brasileiro. Nas partidas de menor apelo, o Rubro-Negro tem atuado em Volta Redonda. No sábado, por exemplo, o Flamengo venceu o Madureira, por 1 a 0, no Raulino de Oliveira.
