Jammu and Kashmir have reached the Ranji Trophy knockouts for the first time in over a decade, and face a tough challenge to go any further, in the form of a talented and in-form Punjab side

No fog here. No haze either. It’s a tranquil setting for a five-day match.J&K’s entry into the knockouts was anything but tranquil. Goa’s win against Andhra on New Year ‘s Day threatened to pip J&K to the second quarterfinal berth but Parvez Rasool and Co worked out their calculations and produced the goods the next day, to beat Goa in a photo finish – by a thousandth of a point.”It’s even more important to build [on the positives] as this is a good Punjab side and then we will be in Pool B next year,” Rasool said. “Everyone’s contributing. Three or four of our bowlers have more than 20 wickets, some batsmen have scored more than 350 runs. In the past, only one or two players used to perform and that didn’t really help the team. But this time, everyone is in good touch.”The challenge for J&K in Moti Baug is not easy. Punjab, who finished second in a tough draw ahead of teams like Delhi and Mumbai, are loaded with experience and talent.”It’s a quarterfinal,” Harbhajan Singh, who returns as the captain of the side, said. “We have played some good cricket and we don’t want to look at the opposition, who they are, where they come from. They have reached this level, so they must have done something good. Whether it’s J&K or Mumbai, you have to play well to beat any team in this competition.”Harbhajan sounded confident of his team’s chances given their all-round strength. On a pitch that is likely to aid seamers, Punjab will have the services of Manpreet Gony and the returning VRV Singh while their batting is solid with the presence of Jiwanjot Singh, Manan Vohra, Mandeep Singh and Yuvraj Singh.”We wanted to give him [VRV] a break, because he was coming from a major back surgery,” Harbhajan said. “So we didn’t want to put too much load on him. But from here onwards, we need him more often and he will be playing tomorrow. So is Gony, who was rested in the last game.”It’s great to see guys like Manan Vohra and Jiwanjot backing up their performances from last year, especially Jiwanjot. Manan Vohra is one of the top opening batsman I have seen in the recent past; he is not afraid to hit the ball and he has a good technique too. It was quite a challenging wicket where he scored 187 (against Jharkhand). Sandeep Sharma is another who has taken a lot of wickets. I hope they play for the country in the years to come.”Harbhajan himself hasn’t played too many matches – in the three games this season, he has picked up 18 wickets – but wants to make an impression. Faith, as the tattoo on his right hand says, is keeping him going. “Every game is an opportunity to do something really special, to keep knocking on the door,” he said. “Hopefully, I’ll get where I want to be.”For the next few days though, Moti Baug is all that will matter for Harbhajan. Mohammad Azharuddin once smacked the then fastest ODI century here, but in recent past, the pitch has been more of a bowlers’ haven. All three matches this season had results; in one of them, as many as 35 wickets fell in two days. There is a provision of a sixth day to get an outright result for the quarter-final but it’s hard to see the match lasting that long.

Like last year, there is only a three-day break between the Adelaide and Perth Tests, but Siddle is hopeful he will be able to walk out with the team at the WACA this time around

Siddle: We don’t need a rest

If there was one image that signified Australia’s disappointment against South Africa last summer, it was the sight of Peter Siddle on his haunches at the end of the Adelaide Test. Depleted, dejected and, he later admitted, “a little bit delirious”, Siddle had delivered 63.5 overs in the match, the most by any Australia fast bowler this century. Australia fell two wickets short of a win, Siddle’s body couldn’t handle another Test four days later, and South Africa took the series with victory in Perth.Twelve months later, Siddle is preparing to return to the venue of his most exhausting Test experience, but in happier circumstances. Australia are 1-0 up in an Ashes series and Siddle’s workload in the first Test – 26.4 overs – is a vast improvement on the 53 he sent down at the Gabba last year. A four-day win in Brisbane also allowed an extra day of rest ahead of Adelaide, and all the Test fast men have sat out of the ongoing round of Sheffield Shield matches.There is always the chance of a fast bowler breaking down in Adelaide, as James Pattinson did early in last year’s match, but Siddle has his fingers crossed for a slightly easier time. Like last year, there is only a three-day break between the Adelaide and Perth Tests, but Siddle is hopeful he will be able to walk out with the team at the WACA this time around.”Going over to Adelaide you never expect a light workload,” Siddle said in Melbourne on Friday. “It’s always going to be hard work. Hopefully this year everyone’s fit. We’ve come off a lighter workload as a bowling unit so hopefully everyone gets through and there’s no hiccups at the start of the game [which would mean] a couple of us have to have big outings.”It’s about how you’re feeling, and I think we’re the biggest judge of that … We judge it in the end, like I did in Perth last year and said I wasn’t up to it. That’s the same thing that will happen around now no doubt. The selectors will pick the best team that’s 100% fit for that Test match … I couldn’t [back up] last time but we’d had a big workload earlier on. This time, it’s obviously been a lot lighter. Two Sheffield Shield matches have been played on the drop-ins this summer and the initial signs are not encouraging for fast bowlers. Across the two matches, spin bowlers have collectively taken 28 wickets at 41.39, while fast bowlers have tallied only 23 victims at 57.08. No fast bowler has taken more than three in an innings.Two matches is a small sample size, of course, and the second of those games – both draws – was getting close to a result when time ran out on the fourth afternoon. Johan Botha, the South Australia captain, said the pitch was “getting towards a result wicket, but you would still probably want a little more out of it on day one and two instead of losing only three or four wickets”. Siddle and his colleagues can expect plenty of hard work.”It doesn’t matter who you’re playing or what game it is over there, whether it’s a one-dayer or a Test match, it’s always tight,” Siddle said. “It is a tough ground to play at; the wicket can get pretty flat to bat on. But sometimes it can get a bit of turn, so the spinner will play a part. We don’t know what’s going to happen with these drop-ins, but hopefully it’s a good cricket wicket all round, the bowlers get a bit out of it and the batters can have a bit of fun out there.”We all saw Mitch bowl over in India on flatter wickets than we’re probably going to get in Adelaide and the pace and bounce he had on those wickets. We don’t know what’s going to be prepared for us. We’ll get over there, we’ll assess the wicket and see what plans we’ll go with.”Australia are expected to use the same attack in Adelaide as they did at the Gabba, although there is the chance of bringing in the allrounder James Faulkner for George Bailey as an extra bowling option. While Faulkner has a strong chance of playing some part in this Ashes series, Pattinson appears unlikely to take on England, despite the news that he will make his return from injury this weekend in club cricket in Melbourne.Pattinson is on the comeback trail from a back stress fracture and will turn out for Dandenong this weekend, though it will be as a batsman only. Cricket Australia’s general manager of team performance, Pat Howard, said on Friday that Pattinson had a carefully planned programme for the coming month, after which his fitness would be reassessed, and he was not expected to play any Sheffield Shield cricket until the new year.

ويبدأ مانشستر يونايتد مبارياته الودية، خلال فترة الاستعداد للموسم الجديد، بمواجهة ليدز يونايتد مساء الغد.

ولم يتواجد أنتوني مارسيال في قائمة مانشستر يونايتد المسافرة إلى النرويج لخوض ودية الغد المرتقبة ضد ليدز.

وتسبب ذلك الأمر في انتشار المزيد من الغموض حول مستقبل المهاجم الفرنسي، خاصة أنه مرتبط بإمكانية مغادرة “الأولد ترافورد” هذا الصيف.

ولكن صحيفة “مترو” الإنجليزية ذكرت أن غياب مارسيال عن مباراة الغد يأتي بسبب عدم جاهزيته حتى الآن.

وأوضحت أن مارسيال لم يتعاف من الإجهاد الذي يعاني منه في أوتار الركبة، والذي أبعده عن نهائي كأس الاتحاد الإنجليزي في يونيو الماضي ضد مانشستر سيتي.

وظهر مارسيال لآخر مرة مع مانشستر يونايتد ضد فولهام يوم 28 مايو، وأعلن النادي بعد ذلك إصابته دون تحديد جدول زمني لعودته.

وأفادت الصحيفة أن درجة إصابة مارسيال شديدة، حيث من غير المرجح أن يعود إلى كامل لياقته لمدة 3 أسابيع أخرى.

تحدث حازم إمام قائد نادي الزمالك الأسبق وعضو مجلس إدارة اتحاد الكرة الحالي، عن أداء المدير الفني الحالي للفارس الأبيض خوان كارلوس أوسوريو، والصفقات التي يحتاجها الفريق خلال فترة الانتقالات الصيفية المقبلة.

وقال إمام في تصريحات تلفزيونية لفضائية “أون تايم سبورتس”: “المباراة الأخيرة أمام الاتحاد السكندري كانت الأفضل للمدير الفني، ولديه فترة راحة حوالي أسبوعين، يستطيع خلالها رؤية الفريق والتعديل كيفما يشاء”.

وتابع: “ملف الصفقات كبير، العام الماضي عندما خسر الأهلي دوري وكأس، قال الجميع إن الفريق يحتاج تسريح عدد من اللاعبين وإبرام صفقات جديدة، ولكن هؤلاء اللاعبين هم المستمرون، ومثلًا شادي حسين الصفقة الجديدة لا يشارك ومحمد شريف هو الذي يتواجد”.

واستكمل: “معظم الجماهير طالبت برحيل اللاعبين بعد خسارة الدوري والكأس، و99% من هؤلاء اللاعبين هم الذي فازوا بدوري أبطال إفريقيا والسوبر والكأس واقتربوا من تحقيق الدوري”.

واستطرد: “الفكرة في المدرب، وهل هؤلاء اللاعبين لديهم إمكانيات أم لا، الزمالك لديه لاعبين جيدين في الناشئين وفي الفريق الأول، ولديه أيضًا لاعبين يستحقون الرحيل والتعاقد مع غيرهم”.

واستأنف: “أرى أن أوسوريو مدرب جيد ولديه رؤية، ولكن قياس نجاح الإدارات ليس بكثرة الصفقات، يجب أن أحدد ما أريد”.

وأتم: “الزمالك يحتاج التعاقد مع ثنائي في خط الوسط وظهير أيمن ورأس حربة”.

ما زال برشلونة يحاول بكل قوته التوصل لاتفاق مع رابطة الدوري الإسباني، لحل الأزمة الاقتصادية وتركهم لتسجيل عقود اللاعبين الجديدة، وكذلك التعاقد مع لاعبين جدد.

واجتمع مسؤولون ماليون ومديرون تنفيذيون من برشلونة مع ممثلي الدوري الإسباني، أمس الثلاثاء، في مقر رابطة الأندية بمدينة مدريد، بحسب صحيفة موندو ديبورتيفو الكتالونية.

وبمجرد الموافقة على خطة برشلونة، سيتم تسجيل عقدي رونالد أراوخو والشاب جافي الجديدين، والذهاب على الفور للتعاقد مع الأرجنتيني ليونيل ميسي.

وحتى الآن لم يتخذ ميسي قرارًا حول مستقبله، لكنه وبيئته يريدون الرد بأسرع وقت ممكن بشأن إمكانية التعاقد معه، حتى يتسنى له التفاوض مع الهلال السعودي.

Australia’s chairman of selectors, John Inverarity, has declared Michael Clarke only had a 50-50 chance of playing the Boxing Day Test and said Mitchell Starc was almost certain to be rested due to his heavy workload. On Sunday, Clarke jogged at half pace on the MCG under the watchful eye of the team physio Alex Kountouris, as he continued his recovery from the hamstring injury that forced him to retire hurt while batting during Australia’s win over Sri Lanka in Hobart.Clarke did not bat at training on Sunday and had his troublesome muscle strapped with an ice-pack while his team-mates worked in the nets in Melbourne’s extreme heat. He took part in long discussions with Inverarity and the coach Mickey Arthur, and while Clarke remains in contention to lead the side on Boxing Day, Inverarity said a conservative approach would be taken regarding Clarke’s fitness.”He’s travelling optimistically and well. But he’s 50-50 as to whether he’ll be fit enough to play on Boxing Day,” Inverarity said. “He’s a very precious asset and I would go low risk. He’s always upbeat, he desperately wants to play. But we certainly don’t want to push him especially hard in a Test for him to break down.”Shane Watson will captain Australia if Clarke is ruled out, and he would become the 44th man to lead Australia in a Test. It is an elite group that does not include some of Australia’s greats – Victor Trumper and Shane Warne, to name just two men who did not captain Australia in Tests – and Watson said he had learnt plenty about leadership while filling in for Clarke during eight one-day internationals earlier this year.”It’s about as big as it gets for an Australian cricketer,” Watson said. “There’s no doubt if that opportunity arises it certainly would be … an amazing opportunity to think something like that has come along in your life. But I’m trying not to get too far in front of myself at the moment.”The thing that really stood out to me [in the ODIs] was to trust my gut instinct. Until you captain a side you don’t really realise the intuition you’ve developed over 10 or 11 years of first-class cricket and also being around some of the best players who have ever played for Australia. Intuition really does come to the fore and you’re able to do things tactically that you didn’t think you had in you.”If Watson leads the side, he will almost certainly be without the left-armer Starc, who is not injured and bowled in the nets on Sunday, but is expected to be rested. At 22, Starc is one of the younger members of Australia’s fast-bowling group and after the breakdowns of James Pattinson and Pat Cummins, the selectors are wary of asking too much of Starc, despite the fact that he has taken 14 wickets in the past two Tests.”He’ll either play Melbourne or Sydney, but it would make some sense that he misses this one and plays Sydney rather than goes Hobart and then Melbourne,” Inverarity said. “It’s about bowling loads. The science behind it is that they’ve got to build up their bowling loads so the oscillations are not very significant. If they do become reasonably significant, as they have done for Mitchell, then you enter a danger period, a high-risk period.”Should Starc sit out, that would mean a Test debut for the Tasmania fast bowler Jackson Bird, who would join Peter Siddle, Mitchell Johnson and Nathan Lyon in the attack. The backup batsman in the squad, Usman Khawaja, batted in the nets on Sunday and even sent down a few offspinners, preparing for what will be his first Test in more than a year, if Clarke is ruled out.

بدأ سبورتينج لشبونة المباراة بقوة وهدد مرمى أرون رامسديل بتسديدة فرانشيسكو ترينكاو، وتعرض آرسنال لضربة قوية بإصابة الظهير الأيمن تاكيهيرو تومياسو بالدقيقة 9 ودخل بدلا منه بنيامين وايت.

في الدقيقة 19، نجح آرسنال في تسجيل الهدف الأول، بعد تمريرة بينية طويلة من جورجينيو، استلمها جابرييل مارتينيلي وسددها لكن أنتونيو أدان تصدى لها، لترتد إلى جرانيت تشاكا، الذي سددها في الشباك الفارغة.

احتفال آرسنال لم يدم طويلا، حيث تعرض المدافع ويليام ساليبا للإصابة في الدقيقة 21، ولم يستطع إكمال اللقاء، ودخل روب هولدنج بدلا منه، قبل أن يهدر ماركوس إدواردز هدفا محققا للضيوف في الدقيقة 28، وينتهي الشوط الأول بتقدم الجانرز 1-0.

في الشوط الثاني، دخل لياندرو تروسارد بدلا من جابرييل جيسوس، ثم سجل بيدرو جونزالفيس هدفا عالميا بالدقيقة 62 بتسديدة قوية جدا من منتصف الملعب، ولم يستطع رامسديل إبعادها.

كان سبورتنج لشبونة قريبا من تسجيل الهدف الثاني، عن طريق ماركوس إدواردز في الدقيقة 72، لكن رامسديل تألق مرة أخرى وأبعد الكرة، لينتهي الوقت الأصلي بالتعادل، ويتجه الفريقان إلى شوطين إضافيين.

O Avaí confirmou na tarde desta segunda-feira, o lateral-direito Yuri, ex-Salgueiro, como novo reforço do clube catarinense. O atleta é a sexta nova peça para o técnico Geninho utilizar para sequência da temporada.

Yuri vestirá pela terceira vez a camisa de um clube na temporada. O jogador passou pelo Uniclinic e em seguida foi para o Salgueiro, onde atuou em 18 jogos, mas sem balançar as redes pelo clube cearense.

Com a chegada do atleta, o Avaí terá mais um jogador para posição de lateral-direito. No momento, o jovem Guga, destaque do time na temporada, terá que brigar pela posição junto ao possível contratado.
